Suppose you have a neural network with 2 layers A and B. A gets the network input. A and B are consecutive (A's output is fed into B as input). Both A and B output predictions (prediction1 and prediction2) Picture of the described architecture You calculate a loss (loss1) directly after the first layer (A) with a target (target1). You also calculate a loss after the second layer (loss2) with its own target (target2).
Does it make sense to use the sum of loss1 and loss2 as the error function and back propagate this loss through the entire network? If so, why is it "allowed" to back propagate loss1 through B even though it has nothing to do with it?
This question is related to this question https://datascience.stackexchange.com/questions/37022/intuition-importance-of-intermediate-supervision-in-deep-learning but it does not answer my question sufficiently. In my case, A and B are unrelated modules. In the aforementioned question, A and B would be identical. The targets would be the same, too.
(Additional information) The reason why I'm asking is that I'm trying to understand LCNN (https://github.com/zhou13/lcnn) from this paper. LCNN is made up of an Hourglass backbone, which then gets fed into MultiTask Learner (creates loss1), which in turn gets fed into a LineVectorizer Module (loss2). Both loss1 and loss2 are then summed up here and then back propagated through the entire network here.
Even though I've visited several deep learning lectures, I didn't know this was "allowed" or makes sense to do. I would have expected to use two loss.backward()
, one for each loss. Or is the pytorch computational graph doing something magical here? LCNN converges and outperforms other neural networks which try to solve the same task.

The problem is that the GIL is not actually released in the np.unique
call. The reason is the axis=0
parameter (you can verify that without it the call to np.unique
releases GIL and is interleaved with the ping
call).
TLDR; The semantics of axis
argument is different for np.sort/cumsum
and np.unique
calls: while for np.sort/cumsum
the operation is performed vectorized "in" that axis (i.e., sorting several arrays independently), the np.unique
is performed on slices "along" that axis, and these slices are non-trivial data types, hence they require Python methods.
With the axis=0
, what numpy does is that it "slices" the array in the first axis, creating a ndarray
with shape (2000, 1)

QUESTION
I have a flutter app in which I have generated app icons for under the android folder of the project with the image asset tool that comes with android studio. On certain versions of android however neither this icon or flutter's default icon displays which seems to tell me this isn't just an issue with the icons I've provided, I instead get the default green android as such:
The screenshots above have come from an android 5 emulator (albeit quite old now its still technically supported by flutter so I wanted to test this) and I get the same problems on a physical device running android 7, but the icon seems to appear fine on any versions above. Something else I have noticed is that no app name appears in the multitasking menu but I'm not sure if that is a completely unrelated issue.
If anyone could help me that would be great, as I can't figure out what other icons I need to place in the project as I thought I'd covered all options. Thanks.

I'm passing by an issue on my Twilio TaskRouter configuration. The thing is that I need to address an incoming task to the worker who has lesser tasks assigned to him/her, not to the longest idle worker (as is the default).
According to Twilio's multitasking documentation, each worker has an assigned_tasks attribute inside their channels. So, I have tried to use this attribute into my order_by clause but it seems not to be working.

Since HTTP is stateless, I assume you have some session/authentication management system that associates a user's session with a Puppeteer browser instance.

method for getting the user then you should see benefits. As soon as the request goes out to the DB then it is waiting on a network or disk response back from the service at the other end. While it is doing this the thread can be freed up to do other work, such as servicing other requests. As it stands in the non-async version the thread will just block and wait for a response.
With async
controller actions you can also get a CancellationToken
which will allow you to quit early if the token is signalled because the client at the other end has terminated the connection (but that may not work with all web servers).
