Once the cluster is installed, you need to tell the cluster to use the mirror’d copy of the image repos that we mirror’d earlier. The official OpenShift documentation suggests creating ImageContentSourcePolicy for each image repository you have mirror’d. However, OpenShift ImageContentSourcePolicy only supports mirror-by-digest-only. Putting it in simpler terms, you can only reference the images in the mirror’d repository using the image digest, or sh256 hash. This is great to provide a very deterministic deployment of OpenShift. To add the netapp/trident repo which I have mirror’d earlier, I create and push the below object to the cluster. Pushing out the above object will reconfigure the cluster and add the below section to /etc/containers/registries.conf on all the cluster nodes. As you can see, the resiting regisry entires has mirror-by-digest-only = true When I try to install the Netapp Trident storage driver, the images are not referenced using their image digests. They are referenced using their image tags. For eg: docker.io/netapp/trident:19.10 The installation fails because the cluster is trying to fetch the images by using tags, and the above registries.conf file prevents fetching images from the mirrors using tags. The only option available at hand is to create a custom registries.conf file and have it pushed out to all the cluster nodes via the machine config operator. The below playbook will uses am ansible template to generate a customised registries.conf file that fits you needs and pushes it out to the cluster.
