The problem is that your is_prime function is to slow, instead of checking if every number is a prime inside of your for loop. Why not generate a list of primes, lets say the first 1 million, store them in a list. Then too check if your number is prime, just check if it is inside of the list.

How to use select() to set a timer for sockets?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 21:17

I'm currently using Winsock2 to be able to test a connection to multiple local telnet servers, but if the server connection fails, the default Winsock client takes forever to timeout.

I've seen from other posts that select() can set a timeout for the connection part, and that setsockopt() with timeval can timeout the receiving portion of the code, but I have no idea how to implement either. Pieces of code that I've copy/pasted from other answers always seem to fail for me.

How would I use both of these functions in the default client code? Or, if it isn't possible to use those functions in the default client code, can someone give me some pointers on how to use those functions correctly?

select() can set a timeout for the connection part.

Yes, but only if you put the socket into non-blocking mode before calling connect(), so that connect() exits immediately and then the code can use select() to wait for the socket to report when the connect operation has finished. But the code shown is not doing that.

setsockopt() with timeval can timeout the receiving portion of the code

Yes, though select() can also be used to timeout a read operation, as well. Simply call select() first, and then call recv() only if select() reports that the socket is readable (has pending data to read).

            QUESTION

Validate list of last names of Hotel Guests according to the corresponding first name in a text file in Python
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 19:30

I have a text file called listofhotelguests.txt where hotelguests are stored line by line with their first names separated by && as a delimiter. Can someone explain how I can have my Python program read it so it associates john with doe, ronald with macdonald, and george with washington?

My expected outcome I'm hoping for is if I prompt the user for their lastname to make sure their a valid guest on the list, the program will check it against what it has in the file for whatever the firstname they entered earlier was.

So if someone enters george as their first name, the program retrieves the line where it has george&&washington, prompts the user to enter their lastname and if it doesn't match what it has, either say it matches or doesn't. I can figure the rest out later myself.

Assuming there is nobody with the same names.

I know I have to split the lines with &&, and somehow store what's before && as something like name1 and whats after && as name2? Or could I do something where if the firstname and lastname are on the same line it returns name1 and password1?

Not sure on what to do. Python is one of my newer languages, and I'm the only CS student in my family and friend groups, so I couldn't ask anybody else for help. Got nowhere by myself.

Even just pointing me in the direction of what I need to study would help immensely.

            Thanks

Here's what the text file looks like:

Ok, but yours is an unnecessarily difficult approach. At each step of the merge process, you want half of your threads to wait for the other half to finish, and the most natural way for one thread to wait for another to finish is to use pthread_join(). If you wanted all of your threads to continue with more work after synchronizing then that would be different, but in this case, those that are not responsible for any more merges have nothing at all left to do.

            This is what I've tried:

I received an official response for the reCAPTCHA Enterprise support team:

Thanks for reaching out here. We recommend not putting a checkbox behind a score. More details are available on this here: https://cloud.google.com/recaptcha-enterprise/docs/faq#id_like_to_use_the_score_from_to_show_a_challenge_checkbox_widget_how_can_i_do_this

Not only are there concerns listed in that FAQ point about the efficacy of a checkbox widget when placed behind a score, but it also over simplifies how the checkbox widget works. We perform "adversarial challenging" on our checkbox widget (essentially, we show harder challenges to known attackers), but we're unable to do so when placed behind a score reCAPTCHA.

All of this being said, if you do wish to do it anyway, you would have to include the JS file twice.

And this is from the link posted in their email:

I'd like to use the score from reCAPTCHA Enterprise to show a challenge / checkbox widget. How can I do this?

We recommend that you do not do this. reCAPTCHA Enterprise expects to see both good and bad user behavior on implementation. If you trigger a reCAPTCHA Enterprise checkbox widget based on a reCAPTCHA Enterprise score, the checkbox widget is only being exposed to bad traffic. Due to this, the widget can have a more difficult time determining whether to show a challenge or not. This can result in issuing NO CAPTCHAs (no challenge shown at all) to fraudulent users or bots due to trouble making that differentiation.

In these cases, we recommend just using a challenge-based site key upfront (like reCAPTCHA Enterprise with a CHECKBOX Site Key) instead, but installing a SCORE Site Key on every page, as well as issuing grecaptcha.enterprise.execute to train the model, but foregoing assessments on the SCORE tokens. Essentially, this achieves the goal by training the reCAPTCHA Enterprise CHECKBOX site keys on user behavior, resulting in less challenges shown to legitimate users and more challenges to fraudulent ones.

            • c, which is used in c != '\n', is not initialized at first. Its initial value is indeterminate and using is value without initializng invokes undefined behavior.
            • You are checking line[i] != '\0', but you never assigned '\0' to line unless '\0' is read from the stream.
            • You should initialize i before the second loop and update i during the second loop.
            • Return values of getchar() should be assigned to int to distinguish between EOF and an valid character.
            • You should perform index check not to cause buffer overrun.

            Install break

You can download it from GitHub.
You can use break like any standard Python library. You will need to make sure that you have a development environment consisting of a Python distribution including header files, a compiler, pip, and git installed. Make sure that your pip, setuptools, and wheel are up to date. When using pip it is generally recommended to install packages in a virtual environment to avoid changes to the system.
