The code works but then fails once I run the function, I think, because of how R reads in the designated variable via the embracing function options. Here is the successful code for one variable, prburden and a link to sample data:

new variable by subtracting rows based on condition in grouped data
            Asked 2021-May-16 at 10:48

I have data for every census tract in the country at three time points (2000, 2013, 2019) that is grouped by CBSA. I'm trying to create a new variable called cont_chg_pedu_colplus that is the difference between the 2013 and 2000 value for pedu_colplus. So, in my example below, I want to create a new column called cont_chg_pedu_colplus that returns the value of 3.0 (14.6 - 11.6). Ideally, each group of tracts would have the same value, since I'm only interested in the difference between time 1 and time 2.

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Apr-21 at 04:15

I'll assume that for each unique pair of tractid and CBSA_name, there are up to 3 entries for year (possible values 2000, 2013, or 2019) and no two years are the same for a given pair of tractid and CBSA_name.

First, we'll group the values in the data frame by tractid and CBSA_name. Each group will have up to 3 rows, one for each year. We do this with dplyr::group_by(tractid, CBSA_name).

Next, we'll force the group to have all 3 years. We do this with tidyr::complete(year = c(2000, 2013, 2019)) as you suggested in the comments. (This is better than my comment using filter(n() == 3), because we actually wouldn't care if only 2019 were missing, and we are able to preserve incomplete groups.)

            Then, we can compute the result you're interested in: dplyr::mutate(cont_chg_pedu_colplus = pedu_colplus[year == 2013] - pedu_colplus[year == 2000]). We just need to dplyr::ungroup() after this and we're done.

Regex Expression with Conditional formatting in a Google Sheet with tracts
            Asked 2021-May-08 at 06:28

So I have to do some conditional formatting for a google spread sheet. Essentially I need to ensure that of a set of data, all of the census tracts that exist in the county need. I want to use conditional formatting to automatically highlight all of the tracts that is in the data set that don't exist in the county. I have a long chain of regex that is not working right now but it contains the data set of tracts that exist in the county. Any suggestions for better solutions would be great.

This does not seem like a good use of regex. You should embed that list somewhere in the spreadsheet and then in your conditional formula use a vlookup inside an isna to deliver a true/false whether it is in the list.

Unfortunately, Google Sheets does not allow the conditional formula to reference off-sheet ranges, so you'll have to keep both lists on the same sheet.

How do I use the getItemLayout prop for in React Native?
            Asked 2021-Apr-30 at 18:42

I have a Flatlist. The data array is the contents of a book(paragraphs, images, subHeadings). How do I implement the getItemLayout prop correctly on my FlatList? I understand this is suppose to tell the FlatList the height of each item to make it more performant. However how am I to find out the size of each item? Is that something that I am to determine arbitrarily meaning by guesstimating? Every item is a different size. I have tried entering random values in getItemLayout just to see what happens however I don't really know how to tell which value would be the correct value.

            This is my FlatList

            Answered 2021-Apr-30 at 18:42

If your list items consistently have the same height, you can pass it to that prop to prevent React Native from having to measure them every time. Even if you are not explicitly setting the height as a style, the computed height may be the same. You can find this by inspecting your items in dev tools.

Most likely, though, the performance issues are the result of a number of factors. How large are the images that you're rendering? Are they significantly larger than the rendered dimensions, and could they be resized? How many items are you rendering?

Also, try removing the useCallback on your renderItem. That may actually worsen performance here, and is unnecessary

            Regular Expression for Census Tracts
            Asked 2021-Apr-19 at 21:44

I am working on making sure a form input is parsed correctly through google forms and I was trying to use my limited regex knowledge to make sure that people do not input tracts incorrectly.

usually a tract is given in an example such as 5129.01 All tracts in the county start with 5, have a second character that is either a 0 or a 1,and if it is a 1, the third character is either [0 - 3] else its [0-9].

I have a working expression but I would like to ensure that if the second character is a 1 the user wouldn't be able to enter a tract like 5150.01

This is what I have: ^5[0-1]([0-9]{2})(\.([0-9]{2}))?$ and this is what is not working: ^5[0-1](?(?<=1)\d|[0-3])(\.([0-9]{2}))?$

Any help would be appreciated thanks
