Customizing nodes of an Azure Synapse Workspace Spark Cluster
            Asked 2021-Feb-09 at 10:01

When creating a Spark cluster within an Azure Synapse workspace, is there a means to install arbitrary files and directories onto it's cluster nodes and/or onto the node's underlying distributed filesystem?

By arbitrary files and directories, I literally mean arbitrary files and directories; not just extra Python libraries like demonstrated here.

Databricks smartly provided a means to do this on it's cluster nodes (described in this document). Now I'm trying to see if there's a means to do the same on an Azure Synapse Workspace Spark Cluster.

            Thank you.

Unfortunately, Azure Synapse Analytics don't support arbitrary binary installs or writing to Spark local storage.

I would suggest you to provide feedback on the same:

I have been following letter by letter the Databricks Official guide to include an init script to a Databricks Cluster(a Job Cluster, not live one), to install the Azure CosmosDB Jar Library(PySpark 2.4).

            This is my init script:

I am not sure why that exception occurs when trying to install the library with the init script but I have managed to achieve my goal by configuring the "Append Libraries" option for the Databricks Notebook Activity, and then pointing to the JAR I had downloaded in advance in the DBFS in my Databricks Workspace.

I have installed the databricks cli tool by running the following command

Azure Databricks cluster init script - Install wheel from mounted storage
            Asked 2020-Apr-07 at 16:45

I have a python wheel uploaded to an azure storage account that is mounted in a databricks service. I'm trying to install the wheel using a cluster init script as described in the databricks documentation.

My storage is definitely mounted and my file path looks correct to me. Running the command display(dbutils.fs.ls("/mnt/package-source")) in a notebook yields the result:

I got it working using a relative path. It turns out ../../mnt/ wasn't the correct path. It worked using ../../../dbfs/mnt/. It just took a bit of exploring the file system using the bash ls command to find it.

For anyone else experiencing the same problem, I suggest starting with something like this in a notebook:

If you want to get puppeteer to work on alpine, try using an older version of puppeteer that works with an older version of Chrome. The newest version of Chrome supported on Alpine is 63, which was the version of Chrome used during the development of puppeteer version 0.11.0.

How to specify cluster init script for spark Job
            Asked 2019-Sep-18 at 10:02

My job needs some init scripts to be executed on cluster, presently i am using "Existing Interactive Cluster" option in job creation and have specified init script for the cluster. But this is getting charged as higher "Data analytics workload".

is there an option that i can specify "New Automated Cluster" option in job creation page and still get the init scripts executed for new cluster. I am not sure if it recommended to use Global Init script, since not all jobs needs those init script, only specific category of jobs need init script.

To fine tune Spark jobs, you can provide custom Spark configuration properties in a cluster configuration.

To set Spark properties for all clusters, create a global init script:

Groovy script to set SonarQube server settings in Jenkins programatically
            Asked 2018-May-15 at 09:55

I have a SonarQube server set up and the SonarQbue plugin set up for Jenkins. I know I have to set two settings; one in 'Manage Jenkins' > 'Configure System' > 'SonarQube Servers' and another (i.e. SonarQube Scanner setup) in 'Manage Jenkins' > 'Global Tool Configuration' > 'SonarQube Scanner'.

I searched on how to set the values of the above settings using Groovy script. This script from GitHub was not helping when I tried in Groovy script console as I got the following error:
