Background

I have a table called purchases with 3 columns id, purchaser, and items_purchased. The key thing to note is that items_purchased is of type varchar. My objective is to be able to select id, purchaser and name,price from the items_purchased column. It is easy to select id and purchaser. However, I am having issue in extracting from items_purchased column. If it was of type jsonb life would be easy, but it is not so I am wondering how can I convert the varchar to array of JSON (items_purchased) and extract information from each JSON.

Sort Array of Objects in React

I'm new to React and I'm trying to sort an array of objects by name is ascending and descending order. I'd also like the sorting to start as soon as the DOM renders hence why I'm using componentDidMount().

The problem I'm having is when you select 'Z - A' option from the dropdown. For some reason the sorting function doesn't work first time then when you select 'A - Z' it's ordering in the opposite order. Any ideas where I'm going wrong? been at this for weeks and I'm completely stumped.

For componentDidMount() are you supposed to call custom functions like that or should I be doing it differently?

I have a log file recording specific actions where the "first word" is the ID of the action, and I'd want to extract from it the first occurence of each ID so I can display the first action of each ID.

I'm not sure I'm quite clear, so let's say I have a file monitoring the actions of a bunch of people and that gets updated everytime someone does something :

Alice ate an apple
Eve fell asleep
Bob watched TV
Bob sat on a chair
Alice went to the kitchen
Dave drank coffee
Carol bought a car
Eve fed the cat
Eve took out the trash
Dave took a shower
Bob washed the dishes
Alice read a book
Carol played the piano
...

Let's say I want to see what is the first action done by each people, so the desired output would be :

Alice ate an apple
Eve fell asleep
Bob watched TV
Dave drank coffee
Carol bought a car

I tried some conbinations of uniq and grep but there is a problem : To use the uniq command I would need to sort the lines first which defeat my purpose to get the first occurence (Example here, "Eve fed the cat" will come before "Eve fell asleep")

Is there a better way to achieve this ?
