How to replace the bundled Dart SDK in Flutter to run natively on Apple Silicon (ARM64)?
            Asked 2022-Mar-21 at 16:27

Dart SDK officially supports ARM64 and as of now, 2.14.2 is the latest (stable) Dart SDK that has support for ARM64. Though it was the same version that was bundled in my Flutter setup, it seemed to run on Intel architecture (Activity monitor shows dart processes running on Intel).

I manually tried replacing the dart SDK on my flutter installation bu replacing flutter-directory/bin/cache/dart-sdk/ with the contents of a zip file of the Dart SDK made for ARM64, downloaded from dart.dev archive. But trying to run an app on an Android emulator (which runs on ARM64 and was working on my old Flutter setup), throws this error:

It seems it can't be used with Flutter yet, as seen in:

Apple Silicon support in the Dart SDK

[...] Note that the Dart SDK bundled in the Flutter SDK doesn’t have these improvements yet.

            And:

            Get the Dart SDK

[...] As of Flutter 1.21, the Flutter SDK includes the full Dart SDK. So if you have Flutter installed, you might not need to explicitly download the Dart SDK. Consider downloading the Dart SDK if any of the following are true:

            • You don’t use Flutter.
            • You use a pre-1.21 version of Flutter.
            • You want to reduce disk space requirements or download time, and your use case doesn’t require Flutter. For example, you might have a continuous integration (CI) setup that requires Dart but not Flutter.

The error is being caused because one of your dependencies is internally using WorkManager 2.7.0-beta01 that was released today (which needs API 31). In my case it was CheckAarMetadata.kt.

You can fix it by forcing Gradle to use an older version of Work Manager for the transitive dependency that works with API 30. In your build.gradle file add:

Log4j vulnerability - Is Log4j 1.2.17 vulnerable (was unable to find any JNDI code in source)?
            Asked 2022-Feb-01 at 15:47

With regard to the Log4j JNDI remote code execution vulnerability that has been identified CVE-2021-44228 - (also see references) - I wondered if Log4j-v1.2 is also impacted, but the closest I got from source code review is the JMS-Appender.

The question is, while the posts on the Internet indicate that Log4j 1.2 is also vulnerable, I am not able to find the relevant source code for it.

Am I missing something that others have identified?

Log4j 1.2 appears to have a vulnerability in the socket-server class, but my understanding is that it needs to be enabled in the first place for it to be applicable and hence is not a passive threat unlike the JNDI-lookup vulnerability which the one identified appears to be.

Is my understanding - that Log4j v1.2 - is not vulnerable to the jndi-remote-code execution bug correct?

            References

This blog post from Cloudflare also indicates the same point as from AKX....that it was introduced from Log4j 2!

Update #1 - A fork of the (now-retired) apache-log4j-1.2.x with patch fixes for few vulnerabilities identified in the older library is now available (from the original log4j author). The site is https://reload4j.qos.ch/. As of 21-Jan-2022 version 1.2.18.2 has been released. Vulnerabilities addressed to date include those pertaining to JMSAppender, SocketServer and Chainsaw vulnerabilities. Note that I am simply relaying this information. Have not verified the fixes from my end. Please refer the link for additional details.

To disable this default filter, go to the preferences (Window > Preferences; in macOS in the application menu) Java > Appearance > Type Filters and uncheck the checkbox java.awt.*.

I reported it to Eclipse and it has been fixed within two weeks, so it will be in the next release Eclipse 2021-12 (4.22) that will be released on December 8, 2021 (and also sooner in the milestone builds starting with M2):

Haskell: Can I read integers directly into an array?
            Asked 2021-Dec-05 at 11:40

In this programming problem, the input is an n×m integer matrix. Typically, n≈ 105 and m ≈ 10. The official solution (1606D, Tutorial) is quite imperative: it involves some matrix manipulation, precomputation and aggregation. For fun, I took it as an STUArray implementation exercise.

            Issue

I have managed to implement it using STUArray, but still the program takes way more memory than permitted (256MB). Even when run locally, the maximum resident set size is >400 MB. On profiling, reading from stdin seems to be dominating the memory footprint:

Functions readv and readv.readInt, responsible for parsing integers and saving them into a 2D list, are taking around 50-70 MB, as opposed to around 16 MB = (106 integers) × (8 bytes per integer + 8 bytes per link).

Is there a hope I can get the total memory below 256 MB? I'm already using Text package for input. Maybe I should avoid lists altogether and directly read integers from stdin to the array. How can we do that? Or, is the issue elsewhere?

            Answered 2021-Dec-05 at 11:40

Contrary to common belief Haskell is quite friendly with respect to problems like that. The real issue is that the array library that comes with GHC is total garbage. Another big problem is that everyone is taught in Haskell to use lists where arrays should be used instead, which is usually one of the major sources of slow code and memory bloated programs. So, it is not surprising that GC takes a long time, it is because there is way too much stuff being allocation. Here is a run on the supplied input for the solution provided below:

I think "without creating temporary objects" is impossible, especially since "everything is an object" in Python.

You could get O(1) space / number of objects if you implement some sorting algorithm yourself, though if you want O(n log n) time and stability, it's difficult. If you don't care about stability (seems likely, since you say you want to sort by a but then actually sort by a, b and c), heapsort is reasonably easy:
