            Application Insights starttrackevent stopstrackevent across pages in a single session
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 22:35

            I am having trouble tracking down documentation on this, so hoping someone knows as I am not able to get application insights to capture telemetry on starttrackevent and stopstrackevent across pages. This is an asp.net mvc application, so SPA is not in play here.

            I am worried I may be doing something incorrectly, however the likely case is it doesn't support it.

            Flow:

            • user hits site for the first time
            • user does action that triggers startTrackEvent("eventName");
            • user navigates to a new page
            • user does action that triggers stopTrackEvent("eventName");

            -- from the appInsights readme https://github.com/microsoft/ApplicationInsights-JS/blob/master/README.md

            appInsights.startTrackEvent("event");

            appInsights.stopTrackEvent("event", null, {customProp1: "some value"});

            .Net Core Entity Framework Email Confirmation 'Click Here' link does not update 'EmailConfirmed' DB property
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 11:59

            I have setup SendGrid for my user registration email confirmation in my .Net 5.0 app as per Microsofts instructions here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=532713

            Everything works fine until the user clicks the confirmation link in their register confirmation email.

            This issue is being caused by a stray amp in my confirmation link. I am trying to understand where it is coming from and how to remove it.

            When the new user clicks 'Submit' on the Register.cshtml page they are successfully directed to the RegisterConfirmation.cshtml page and the email is received in their inbox.

            Actual behavior:

            The user clicks the link in the email and hits the ConfirmEmail page.

            The user is redirected to /Index page.

            The EmailConfirmed bool in the DB is not updated.

            If I comment out the redirect to /Index in my controller, then I get a null value error shown below.

            Position fixed breaking out of the container in bootstrap 4 on scroll
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 09:35

            I have customized a progress bar when I scroll down. According to the content the progress bar gets increased with fixed and scroll up the bar get decreased.

            When I tried with position: fixed it is breaking out of the container level. It should come inside the container level with left and right aligned.

            Note: I want it to be done in position: fixed

            Thank you for anyone help and time, I appreciate it.

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 08:03

            The issue is because using position: fixed takes the element out of the document flow. As such it has no reference to its parent for CSS to be able to calculate inherited dimensions.

            In this case you can create the behaviour you require by manually calculating the percentage width as an explicit pixel value using the width of .container.

            Also note that the if condition around the moveTrackingBar() function definition is redundant and can be removed.

            Issue

            Your productData is initially null and will be on any subsequent renders until updated by the GET request. Attempting to access the productData.variants throws the error because productData is null.

            Solution

            You can use some loading state and conditionally render your UI. Use a null-check/optional chaining operator on the productData state.

            Google Tag Manager, are params persisted when redirecting to/from Stripe Checkout?
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 17:29

            Heyo! This might be the dumbest question ever, but I really find Tag Manager confusing.

            I have an app which receives UTM params to do campaign tracking, when the user reaches the payment page we use Stripe Checkout and then the user is redirected to/from the Stripe domain.

            • Once the user has been redirected back and there is a successful purchase, are UTM params still persisted in Google Tag Manager?
            • Is there anyway I can check which UTM params are currently applied in the browser session? I haven't found any snippet that could do this

            Many many thanks!

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-14 at 17:29

            This is not a dumb question at all. However, GTM by itself does not persist anything, unless you create a tag that writes the utm parameters to cookies or local storage. But then this is probably not relevant for your case, because with the proper configuration, Google Analytics does persist the values by itself (in a manner of speaking).

            GA calculates sessions on the GA server by connecting requests with the same client id (or user if, if set). It can look at the first pageview in the session and inspect the url for campaign information such as utm parameters. That way, it does not require that utm parameters are persisted in the browser, the only thing that needs to be stored (by default in a cookie) is the client id.

            There is one caveat, that GA starts a new session when the campaign info changes. When you visitor is rerouted via an external domain for payment, a new session will start with the external domain as referrer and the marketing channel set to referrer. To avoid that, you need to add the payment gateway domain to the referral exclusion list (if you use Universal Analytics, there is a similar mechanism for Google Analytics 4), so GA ignores the external domain when the session and channel attribution is calculated. But that's a setting in the Google Analytics interface, you do not need to make changes to GTM for that.

            Uno-Platform implement app tracking prompt
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 14:43

            I am in the process of updating my app and with Apple changing the Privacy requirements(I do like this), I believe I need to add App tracking permissions into my app. This is because I use a webview that goes to a third party website that grabs the device IP address and puts a cookie in the view. I am struggling with how to do this in Uno. I know it uses the Xamarin platform underneath- but I am not really understanding how to do this. There are no ads anywhere in the app. I have only been able to find a few examples- so what I am putting below is based off of them.

            I see that I need to add NSUserTrackingUsageDescription to my info.plist. I see that I need to use AttTrackingManager. So- first- how do I import AttTrackingManager into my project in Visual Studio? I checked in Nuget and did not see it. From what I can tell- I need to check for the value in my OnLoaded, and depending on the value I need to either zero out the device ID or do nothing. Also- do I need to check this value anytime my app accesses the webview- User goes to a different page in the app and comes back to the webview(I would think I need to check it)?

            Are my statements above correct? Is the best way to implement the parts in the code using something like this:

            Your approach seems sound. Let me clarify some of your interrogations.

            1- You are looking for a nuget but you don't need to. ATTrackingManager is part of the iOS SDK (in the AppTrackingTransparency namespace), as long as you target iOS14.5 as a compilation target you will have access to it. The Xamarin.iOS bits are built-in VisualStudio, so just make sure your version is high enough.

            2- You need to add a NSUserTrackingUsageDescription in info.plist as you mentioned. This will be displayed in the popup.

            3- In your code, to prompt the user with the native popup you need something like this.

            Why doesn't `git update-ref -d` delete empty parent directories?
            Asked 2021-Jun-13 at 14:08

            There are various types of refs in git, some of the most common of which are branches (stored in .git/refs/heads), remote-tracking branches (.git/refs/remotes), and tags (.git/refs/tags).

            But it's also possible to create and use arbitrary non-standard refs that live elsewhere under .git/refs. This can be useful for storing custom metadata in the repository that you don't expect users will want to interact with directly. For example, GitHub uses these kinds of refs to expose references to pull request branches, and the Emacs git client Magit uses them to save uncommitted changes periodically, when the appropriate setting is enabled. Such refs would generally need to be manipulated using the so-called "plumbing" commands of git, since the user-facing "porcelain" commands don't know about or support them.

            I was playing around with non-standard refs using the plumbing command git update-ref and found some odd behavior:

            I am working in web scraping, I want to scrape the data through pagination and export it in csv file. ANSWER

            What you’re doing for each page is basically these steps:

            • get links in df1
            • compute df2, which is df (links from the first page) + df1 (links from current page)
            • write df2 to a csv file

            So the program is doing what you ask it to do by repeating the first page every time. If you want to avoid that, you should either:

            1. concatenate all pages together, then write the dataframe containing all pages’ links to csv
            2. write each pages’ links appending to the csv, skipping the header row.

            Going with option 2 that means that you can replace:
