Why does foldl' use a lot of RAM with complex data structures?
            Asked 2022-Apr-03 at 01:58

Lazy fold uses a lot of RAM. In Data.List, foldl' provides a left fold that uses strict evaluation. For example, the following computes the sum of 10 million zeros with little increase in RAM usage.

            ANSWER

            Answered 2022-Apr-03 at 01:58

foldl' only evaluates the intermediate state to weak head normal form—i.e. up to the first constructor. That's the most a generic function can do, and what functions that are called "strict" generally do. Evaluating (x1, y1) <+> (x2, y2) until it looks like a constructor gives (x1 + x2, y1 + y2), where the parts are still unevaluated (they have been "protected" by the (,)). Through the iteration, foldl' being strict keeps the state in the form (_, _) instead of (_, _) <+> (_, _) <+> ..., but the _s grow into huge unevaluated terms of form _ + _ + _ + ....

Modify <+> to evaluate the additions before it exposes the constructor.

I am working on an app, I posted last update on git 2 days ago and haven't touched the code since. Now, I opened android studio and it was giving me this error when I tried to run it... I tried deleting repository from my computer and then cloning it again but it didn't work. I have also tried searching for similar problems, and found out there was a similar problem with speed-dial package and one comment said something about broken package versions. Anyways, this is the error I am getting after I try running my app:

These are first few lines of the error it's giving me, but there is more than a thousand lines following these.

I also tried running flutter doctor and it gave me the following:

This problem has a fun O(n) solution.

If you draw a graph of cumulative sum vs index, then:

The average value in the subarray between any two indexes is the slope of the line between those points on the graph.

The first highest-average-prefix will end at the point that makes the highest angle from 0. The next highest-average-prefix must then have a smaller average, and it will end at the point that makes the highest angle from the first ending. Continuing to the end of the array, we find that...

These segments of highest average are exactly the segments in the upper convex hull of the cumulative sum graph.

Find these segments using the monotone chain algorithm. Since the points are already sorted, it takes O(n) time.

Vue 3: Module '"../../node_modules/vue/dist/vue"' has no exported member
            Asked 2022-Jan-24 at 08:38

After updating my npm packages, some of the imports from the 'vue' module started showing errors:

TS2305: Module '"../../node_modules/vue/dist/vue"' has no exported member 'X'

where X is nextTick, onMounted, ref, watch etc. When serving the project, Vue says it's "failed to compile". WebStorm actually recognizes the exports, suggests them and shows types, but the error is shown regardless. Some exports like computed and defineComponent work just fine.

            What I've tried:

            • Rollback to the previously used Vue version "3.2.2" > "3.0.11". It makes the abovementioned type errors disappear, but the app stops working entirely, showing lots of TypeError: Object(...) is not a function errors in console and not rendering the app at all. In the terminal, some new warnings are introduced: "export 'X' (imported as '_X') was not found in 'vue' where X is createElementBlock, createElementVNode, normalizeClass and normalizeStyle.
            • Rollback other dependencies. None of the ones that I tried helped fix the problem, unfortunately.
            • Manually declare the entirety of 'vue' module. We can declare the 'vue' module exports in shims-vue.d.ts, and it actually makes the errors disappear, however, this seems like a terrible, time-consuming workaround, so I would opt out for a better solution if possible.

            Answered 2021-Aug-15 at 13:53

That named exports from composition API are unavailable means that vue is Vue 2 at some place which has only default export. Since Vue 3 is in dependencies and both lock file and node_modules were refreshed, this means that Vue 2 is nested dependency of some direct dependency.

The problem needs to be investigated in lock file. It shows that @vue/cli-plugin-unit-jest@4.5.13 depends on vue-jest@3 which depends on vue@2.

A possible solution is to upgrade @vue/cli-plugin-unit-jest to the latest version, next. The same likely applies to other @vue/cli-* packages because they have matching versions.

            Efficient summation in Python
            Asked 2022-Jan-16 at 12:49

I am trying to efficiently compute a summation of a summation in Python:

WolframAlpha is able to compute it too a high n value: sum of sum.

I have two approaches: a for loop method and an np.sum method. I thought the np.sum approach would be faster. However, they are the same until a large n, after which the np.sum has overflow errors and gives the wrong result.

I am trying to find the fastest way to compute this sum.

(fastest methods, 3 and 4, are at the end)

In a fast NumPy method you need to specify dtype=np.object so that NumPy does not convert Python int to its own dtypes (np.int64 or others). It will now give you correct results (checked it up to N=100000).

This is what solved it for me on my M1.

            1. Go to Android Studio Preview and download the latest Canary build for Apple chip (Chipmunk). Don't worry this is just to get through the initial setup.
            2. Unpack it, run it, let it install all the SDK components, accept licenses, etc as usual.
            3. Once it's done, simply close it and delete it.

Now when you start your stable Android Studio (Arctic Fox) you should not see the error.

Here is a sample code to output what you need. I use the formula below to calculate pct change. percentage_change = 100*(new-old)/old

If old is 0 it is changed to 1 to avoid division by zero error.
