My team and I recently began seeing the same issue after updating VSCode. There's a little more info on this setting here: https://go.googlesource.com/vscode-go/+/HEAD/docs/debugging.md#switching-to-legacy-debug-adapter, but I believe root cause (if this does indeed solve your issue) is going to be your version of Golang is not the version targeted by dlv-dap. Anything below Go version 1.15 needs to use legacy mode, and the latest version of the delve debugger happens to skip legacy mode by default now.

I also needed to kill VSCode before this change took effect. According to the dlv-dap docs, you can also force it into legacy mode by switching launch.json's mode to "remote", so there's likely a few (maybe better) ways to resolve this issue.

QUESTION

The unauthenticated git protocol on port 9418 is no longer supported

Asked 2022-Mar-27 at 13:23

I have been using github actions for quite sometime but today my deployments started failing. Below is the error from github action logs

1Command: git
2Arguments: ls-remote --tags --heads git://github.com/adobe-webplatform/eve.git
3Directory: /home/runner/work/stackstream-fe/stackstream-fe
4Output:
5fatal: remote error:
6 The unauthenticated git protocol on port 9418 is no longer supported.
7

Upon investigation, it appears that below section in my yml file is causing the issue.

1Command: git
2Arguments: ls-remote --tags --heads git://github.com/adobe-webplatform/eve.git
3Directory: /home/runner/work/stackstream-fe/stackstream-fe

5fatal: remote error:
6 The unauthenticated git protocol on port 9418 is no longer supported.
7    - name: Installing modules
8      run: yarn install
9

I have looked into this change log but can't seem to comprehend the issue.

First, this error message is indeed expected on Jan. 11th, 2022.
See "Improving Git protocol security on GitHub".

January 11, 2022 Final brownout.

This is the full brownout period where we’ll temporarily stop accepting the deprecated key and signature types, ciphers, and MACs, and the unencrypted Git protocol.
This will help clients discover any lingering use of older keys or old URLs.

Second, check your package.json dependencies for any git:// URL, as in this example, fixed in this PR.

As noted by Jörg W Mittag:

There was a 4-month warning.
The entire Internet has been moving away from unauthenticated, unencrypted protocols for a decade, it's not like this is a huge surprise.

Personally, I consider it less an "issue" and more "detecting unmaintained dependencies".

Plus, this is still only the brownout period, so the protocol will only be disabled for a short period of time, allowing developers to discover the problem.

The permanent shutdown is not until March 15th.

For GitHub Actions:

As in actions/checkout issue 14, you can add as a first step:

1Command: git
2Arguments: ls-remote --tags --heads git://github.com/adobe-webplatform/eve.git
3Directory: /home/runner/work/stackstream-fe/stackstream-fe
4Output:
5fatal: remote error:
6 The unauthenticated git protocol on port 9418 is no longer supported.

You can also use SSH, but GitHub Security reminds us that, as of March 15th, 2022, GitHub stopped accepting DSA keys. RSA keys uploaded after Nov 2, 2021 will work only with SHA-2 signatures.
The deprecated MACs, ciphers, and unencrypted Git protocol are permanently disabled.

So this (with the right key) would work:

1Command: git
2Arguments: ls-remote --tags --heads git://github.com/adobe-webplatform/eve.git
3Directory: /home/runner/work/stackstream-fe/stackstream-fe
4Output:
5fatal: remote error:
6 The unauthenticated git protocol on port 9418 is no longer supported.

Current IntelliJ IDEA version requires Java 11 to run. Remove the overrides (idea.jdk file/environment variables) to use the default bundled JetBrains Runtime.

QUESTION

Convert multiple lines to single line using RStudio text editor

Asked 2022-Mar-13 at 23:41

Does the RStudio text editor have a simple automated way to convert this:

1c(
2"097",
3"085",
4"041",
5"055"
6)
7

to this: c("097", "085", "041", "055")?

There are answers for other text editors (e.g., here), but I'm looking for a solution specific to RStudio.

ANSWER

Answered 2022-Mar-13 at 22:13

You can use dput:

1c(
2"097",
3"085",
4"041",
5"055"
6)
7dput(c(
8"097",
9"085",
10"041",
11"055"
12))
13#> c("097", "085", "041", "055")
14

It is also possible to set-up a code formatting add-in that you can bind to keyboard shortcuts by installing the styler package.

QUESTION

VS 2022 - Convert to file-scoped namespace in all files

Asked 2022-Mar-09 at 08:44

I'm converting my project to .NET 6 and I want to use filescoped namespaces everywhere. But the conversion tool exists only in the editor.

file-scoped namespace conversion

Has anyone found out if there's a way to run this editor function across all files in solution at once? (Looks like Rider has that function)

ANSWER

Answered 2022-Mar-09 at 08:44

Adding a rule to use file scoped namespaces in .editorconfig worked for me:

  • create an .editorconfig file in the solution directory
  • add following line/content below (docs, code - IDE0161)

Example .editorconfig file content:

1[*.cs]
2csharp_style_namespace_declarations = file_scoped:warning
3

After that the preview changes dialog had an option to apply the fix to the whole project/solution:

When I reset the style of ::placeholder on a password input it turn into dots on Chrome & Safari browsers

Asked 2022-Mar-01 at 09:17

I'm using all: unset on and the placeholder turn into dots.

HTML:

1<input type="password" placeholder="text of placeholder">
2

CSS:

1<input type="password" placeholder="text of placeholder">
2::placeholder {

The wrong, visual result of placeholder:

Is there any way to still use the all: unset and bring back the value of placeholder that will show up correctly?

QUESTION

What counts as a newline for Raku *source* files?

Asked 2022-Jan-15 at 15:04

I was somewhat surprised to observe that the following code

1# comment
say 1;
2# comment
say 2;
3# comment say 3;
4# comment say 4;
5

prints 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Here are the relevant characters after "# comment":

1# comment
say 1;
2# comment
say 2;
3# comment say 3;
4# comment say 4;
5say "

".uninames.raku;
6# OUTPUT: «("PARAGRAPH SEPARATOR", "LINE SEPARATOR", "<control-000B>", "<control-000C>").Seq»
7

Note that many/all of these characters are invisible in most fonts. At least with my editor, none cause the following text to be printed on a new line. And at least one (<control-000C>, aka Form Feed, sometimes printed as ^L) is in fairly wide use in Vim/Emacs as a section separator.

This raises a few questions:

  1. Is this intentional, or a bug?
  2. If intentional, what's the use-case (other than winning obfuscated code contests!)
  3. Is it just these 4 characters, or are there others? (I found these because they share the mandatory break Unicode property. Does that property (or some other Unicode property?) govern what Raku considers as a newline?)
  4. Just, really, wow.

(I realize #4 is not technically a question, but I feel it needed to be said).

ANSWER

Answered 2022-Jan-15 at 15:04

Raku's syntax is defined as a Raku grammar. The rule for parsing such a comment is:

1# comment
say 1;
2# comment
say 2;
3# comment say 3;
4# comment say 4;
5say "

".uninames.raku;
6# OUTPUT: «("PARAGRAPH SEPARATOR", "LINE SEPARATOR", "<control-000B>", "<control-000C>").Seq»
7token comment:sym<#> {
8   '#' {} \N*
9}
10

That is, it eats everything after the # that is not a newline character. As with all built-in character classes in Raku, \n and its negation are Unicode-aware. The language design docs state:

\n matches a logical (platform independent) newline, not just \x0a. See TR18 section 1.6 for a list of logical newlines.

Which is a reference to the Unicode standard for regular expressions.

I somewhat doubt there was ever a specific language design discussion along the lines of "let's enable all the kinds of newlines in Unicode, it'll be cool!" Rather, the decisions were that Raku should follow the Unicode regex technical report, and that Raku syntax would be defined in terms of a Raku grammar and thus make use of the Unicode-aware character classes. That a range of different newline characters are supported is a consequence of consistently following those principles.

QUESTION

Android Studio strange code sub-windows after upgrade to Arctic Fox (2020.3.1)

Asked 2022-Jan-14 at 09:18

After Android Studio upgraded itself to version Arctic Fox, I now get these strange sub-windows in my code editor that I can't get rid of. If I click in either of the 2 sub-windows (a one-line window at the top or a 5-line window underneath it (see pic below), it scrolls to the code in question and the sub-windows disappear. But as soon as I navigate away from that code, these sub-windows mysteriously reappear. I can't figure out how to get rid of this.

I restarted Studio and it seemed to go away. Then I refactored a piece of code (Extract to Method Ctrl+Alt+M) and then these windows appeared again. Sometimes these windows appear on a 2nd monitor instead of on top of the code area on the monitor with Android Studio. But eventually they end up back on top of my code editor window.

I have searched hi and low for what this is. Studio help, new features, blog, etc. I am sure that I am just using the wrong terminology to find the answer, so hoping someone else knows.

ANSWER

Just stumbled upon the same thing (strange windows upon attempting to refactor some code after updating to Arctic Fox). After a lot of searching around the options/menus/internet this fixed it for me:

Navigate to:

File > Settings... > Editor > Code Editing

under

Refactorings > Specify refactoring options:

select

In modal dialogs

Press OK.

Fingers crossed refactoring works.

🤞

Further step: Restart Android Studio

QUESTION

How do I correct syntax highlight in VS Code for PHP 8.1 Enum Class?

Asked 2022-Jan-12 at 07:13

My Code:

1namespace App\Enum;
2
3enum HomeStatus: string
4{
5    case RENT = 'rent';
6    case MOVE_IN = 'move_in';
7    case SOLD = 'sold';
8    case COMING_SOON = 'coming_soon';
9}
10

The code above is executing and working but the editor has the following error:

Unexpected 'Name'. Expected ';'.intelephense(1001)

I am using Intelephense v1.8.0 which I believe is the latest.

In the Change Log it says:

PHP 8.1 is now the default version.

I'm thinking that either that's not the case or PHP 8.1 does not yet have support for enums.

Is there a way to resolve this or is this something that is not yet supported?

EDIT As requested here's a screenshot of the error.

ANSWER

Answered 2022-Jan-12 at 07:13

Open Visual Studio Code settings and ensure the intelephense.environment.phpVersion directive is set to "8.1.0". It can be set for the whole program or for specific projects.

intelephense.environment.phpVersion

1namespace App\Enum;
2
3enum HomeStatus: string
4{
5    case RENT = 'rent';
6    case MOVE_IN = 'move_in';
7    case SOLD = 'sold';
8    case COMING_SOON = 'coming_soon';
9}
10{
11    "intelephense.environment.phpVersion": "8.1.0"

QUESTION

What should `foo.template bar()` do when there's both a template and a non-template overload?

Asked 2022-Jan-09 at 00:42

A coworker shared this code with me:

run on gcc.godbolt.org

1#include <iostream>
2
3struct A
4{
5    void foo() {std::cout << "1\n";}
6
7    template <typename T = int>
8    void foo() {std::cout << "2\n";}
9};
10
11int main()
12{
13    A x;
14    x.template foo();
15}
16

GCC prints 1, Clang prints 2, and MSVC complains about missing template arguments.

Which compiler is correct?

ANSWER

Answered 2022-Jan-09 at 00:42

[temp.names]/5 says that a name prefixed by template must be a template-id, meaning that it must have a template argument list. (Or it can refer to a class/alias template without template argument list, but this is deprecated in the current draft as a result of P1787R6 authored by @DavisHerring.)

There is even an example almost identical to yours under it, identifying your use of template as ill-formed.

The requirement and example comes from CWG defect report 96, in which the possible ambiguity without the requirement is considered.

Open GCC bug report for this is here. I was not able to find a Clang bug report, but searching for it isn't that easy. Its implementation status page for defect reports however does list the defect report as unimplemented.
