kandi X-RAY | metrics-server Summary

metrics-server is a Go library typically used in Performance Management, Monitoring, Docker, Prometheus applications. metrics-server has no bugs, it has no vulnerabilities, it has a Permissive License and it has medium support. You can download it from GitHub.

Metrics Server is a scalable, efficient source of container resource metrics for Kubernetes built-in autoscaling pipelines. Metrics Server collects resource metrics from Kubelets and exposes them in Kubernetes apiserver through Metrics API for use by Horizontal Pod Autoscaler and Vertical Pod Autoscaler. Metrics API can also be accessed by kubectl top, making it easier to debug autoscaling pipelines. Metrics Server is not meant for non-autoscaling purposes. For example, don't use it to forward metrics to monitoring solutions, or as a source of monitoring solution metrics. In such cases please collect metrics from Kubelet /metrics/resource endpoint directly.

The @types/js-yaml contains only type definitions used by TypeScript compiler to verify your code. However, it doesn't contain the actual implementation required at runtime.

You should install npm install js-yaml --save.

Kubernetes metrics-server not working with Linkerd
            Asked 2022-Mar-07 at 21:18

I have a metrics-server and a horizontal pod autoscaler using this server, running on my cluster.
This works perfectly fine, until i inject linkerd-proxies into the deployments of the namespace where my application is running. Running kubectl top pod in that namespace results in a error: Metrics not available for pod error. However, nothing appears in the metrics-server pod's logs.
The metrics-server clearly works fine in other namespaces, because top works in every namespace but the meshed one.

At first i thought it could be because the proxies' resource requests/limits weren't set, but after running the injection with them (kubectl get -n deploy -o yaml | linkerd inject - --proxy-cpu-request "10m" --proxy-cpu-limit "1" --proxy-memory-request "64Mi" --proxy-memory-limit "256Mi" | kubectl apply -f -), the issue stays the same.

Is this a known problem, are there any possible solutions?

PS: I have a kube-prometheus-stack running in a different namespace, and this seems to be able to scrape the pod metrics from the meshed pods just fine

There are many agents capable of saving metrics collected in k8s to remote Prometheus server outside the cluster, example Prometheus itself now support agent mode, exporter from Opentelemetry, or using managed Prometheus etc.

Something wrong happend with my RPi 4 cluster based on k3sup.

Everything works as expected until yesterday when I had to reinstall master node operating system. For example, I have a redis installed on master node and then some pods on worker nodes. My pods can not connect to redis via DNS: redis-master.database.svc.cluster.local (but they do day before).

It throws an error that can not resolve domain when I test with busybox like:

There was one more thing that was not mentioned. I'm using OpenVPN with NordVPN server list on master node, and use a privoxy for worker nodes.

When you install and run OpenVPN before running kubernetes master, OpenVPN add rules that block kubernetes networking. So, coredns does not work and you can't reach any pod via IP as well.

I'm using RPi 4 cluster, so for me it was good enough to just re-install master node, install kubernetes at first and then configure openvpn. Now everything is working as expected.

It's good enough to order your system units by adding After or Before in service definition. I have VPN systemd service that looks like below:

There are mandatory data to be maintain when a cluster is running (eg. default service token). When you shutdown (eg. systemctl stop k3s) the cluster (not just delete pods) these will be released.
