QUESTION
I am using airflow 2.0.2 to connect with databricks using the airflow-databricks-operator. The SQL Operator doesn't let me specify the database where the query should be executed, so I have to prefix the table_name
with database_name
. I tried reading through the doc of databricks-sql-connector as well here -- https://docs.databricks.com/dev-tools/python-sql-connector.html and still couldn't figure out if I could give the database name as a parameter in the connection string itself.
I tried setting database/schema/namespace
in the **kwargs
, but no luck. The query executor keeps saying that the table not found, because the query keeps getting executed in the default database.
ANSWER
Answered 2022-Apr-16 at 12:41Right now it's not supported - primarily reason is that if you have multiple statements then connector could reconnect between their execution, and result of use
will be lost. databricks-sql-connector
also doesn't allow setting of the default database.
Right now you can workaround that by adding explicit use
statement into a list of SQLs to execute (the sql
parameter could be a list of strings, not only string).
P.S. I'll look, maybe I'll add setting of the default catalog/database in the next versions
QUESTION
I am currently connecting my Visual Studio Code to my Databricks Workspace using the Databricks Connect feature (local machine is Windows). To do so, I followed instructions here and here. Now, I got it to work for PySpark. Meaning that I established the connection and I can execute some PySpark Code against my Cluster:
I would like to repeat the same small example using scala code. But I do not know how? The Databricks documentation is not exhaustive and my build.sbt fails. The build from this tutorial fails for me as well. Following the documentation I have created a build.sbt which looks as follows:
...ANSWER
Answered 2022-Mar-24 at 09:43Ok, actually this was simply because I was not providing the right mainClass in the build.sbt. For future reference also, really make sure you are using the right jdk version as of the time of this answer only jdk 8 is supported. PySpark will compile with JDK 11 but Scala will (obviously) not.
QUESTION
I am trying to connect to a Spark cluster on Databricks and I am following this tutorial: https://docs.databricks.com/dev-tools/dbt.html. And I have the dbt-databricks
connector installed (https://github.com/databricks/dbt-databricks). However, no matter how I configure it, I keep getting "Database error, failed to connect" when I run dbt test
/ dbt debug
.
This is my profiles.yaml

ANSWER
Answered 2022-Feb-21 at 13:12I had not specified this in the original question, but I had used conda
to set up a virtual environment. Somehow that doesn't work, so I'd recommend following the tutorial to the letter and use pipenv
.
QUESTION
My ultimate goal is to mount ADLS gen2 containers into my Databricks workspace as part of my Terraform-managed deployment under the auspices of an Azure Service Principal. This is a single deployment that creates all the Azure resources (networking, firewall, storage accounts, Databricks workspaces, etc.) and then configures the Databricks workspace, using the Databricks Terraform provider.
This answer says I cannot do AAD passthrough mounting with a Service Principal, which means I have to use OAuth2 authentication. For which, I need an Azure Key Vault backed secret scope in Databricks. The Terraform documentation says I can only do this with user-based authentication, not with my Service Principal.
So I thought maybe I could implement a hack: Create a Databricks PAT in Terraform (again, always as the Service Principal), then use the Terraform external
resource to "shell out" to the Databricks CLI, authenticating with this PAT. I tried this manually and got this error:
ANSWER
Answered 2022-Mar-09 at 20:07Yes, you can’t do that using AAD token issued for a service principal - it works only with AAD token of real user. It’s well known and well documented limitation of Azure, hopefully it will be fixed in future.
This is one of the major roadblocks on the way of implementing end-to-end automated provisioning of Azure Databricks workspaces
QUESTION
I am using python 3.6 to make API calls to Azure Databricks to create a job to run a specific notebook. I have followed the instruction of using the API at this link. The only difference is I am using python rather than curl. The code I have written is as follows:
...ANSWER
Answered 2022-Mar-08 at 20:30You're mixing up the API versions - the tasks
array could be used only with Jobs API 2.1, but you're using Jobs API 2.0. Another error is that you have //
between host name & path.
Just change dbrks_create_job_url
to "https://"+os.environ['DBRKS_INSTANCE']+".azuredatabricks.net/api/2.1/jobs/create"
QUESTION
We have 2 docker containers, 1 each for identity server and another for an application. I am able to authorize the swagger page but when I execute an end-point in the swagger page, I see Internal Server 500 error.
Below is the response while using edge dev-tools: Status 500 while SetCsrfCookie //initiator abp.swagger.js
...ANSWER
Answered 2022-Feb-23 at 08:44You should enable the ShowPII
flag first to get an actual error message.
How this is done is answered here.
In my case the URL used to fetch the discovery document was wrong but it could be really anything. The actual error message will give you a glue.
QUESTION
How do I get a list of all notebooks in my workspace & store their names along with full path in csv file, I have tried using Databricks CLI option but that doesn't seem to have recursive operation.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Nov-25 at 13:59As we can see in code there is no recursive option: https://github.com/databricks/databricks-cli/blob/master/databricks_cli/workspace/cli.py (def ls_cli)
Example solution is to import cli in python and extend it:
QUESTION
I have a Cloudfront distribution with a S3 origin bucket (using Cloudformation/SAM to delegate resources) that's acting strangely. The S3 bucket only stores images.
Whenever I request an image through the src attribute, the network tab in dev-tools shows that the Cloudfront resource was a cache-miss (remains even after repeated refreshing). However, when sending a GET request through Postman or a browser, after one refresh I start seeing Cache-hits from the respective request sender.
Client-side, I'm using React with styled-components for the image tag. No query strings are being appended and Cloudfront has been told to disregard them as well.
Not sure if this is an issue with my Cloudformation setup or an issue with cached responses from the server, but any guidance would be much appreciated!
My template.yaml file:
...ANSWER
Answered 2022-Jan-25 at 19:28The issue was Chrome caching response headers for repeat-requests to resources.
Devtools shows a status code of 200 for the requested resource along with a (from disk cache) message- led me to believe that the status code AND the response headers were being cached. Tried clearing the browser cache and got the expected Cloudfront header.

I'm facing a problem in changing the font size of the h1 tag with CSS. I have set the size to 4rem, but it doesn't change.
When I inspect the element in the dev-tools, h1

And the h1 title ("Meet new and interesting...") font size looks like this:
But I want the h1 tag to be bigger, like this:

QUESTION
I am setting up a development environment as a Docker container image. This will allow me and my colleagues to get up and running quickly using it as an interpreter environment. Our intended workflow is to develop code locally and execute it on an Azure Databricks cluster that's connected to various data sources. For this I'm looking into using databricks-connect.
I am running into the configuration of databricks-connect apparently solely being an interactive procedure. This results in having to run databricks-connect configure
and supplying various configuration values each time the Docker container image is run, which is likely to become a nuisance.
Is there a way to configure databricks-connect in a non-interactive way? This would allow me to include the configuration procedure in the development environments Dockerfile
and a developer being only required to supply configuration values when (re)building their local development environment.
ANSWER
Answered 2021-Dec-24 at 22:32Yes - it’s possible, there are different ways for that:
- use shell multi line input, like this (taken from here) - just need to define correct environment variables:
