volttron create agent with discoverable BACnet points
            Asked 2021-May-13 at 14:48

I was curious with VOLTTRON agent development if an agent could be used to expose discoverable BACnet points to a building automation system.

For example, BAC0 that also uses bacpypes under the hood like VOLTTRON I can create a really simple BACnet app (shown below) and discover my BAC0 app (and points) via BACnet to the building automation system.

I have an odd use case not to control or acquire data (I think typical VOLTTRON use case) but only to "expose" a few read only AV BACnet points (integers that represent the count of people in particular HVAC zones from some other system counting people) to the building automation system.

Sorry another vague question but would there be any examples to look at if anyone has done this with an agent development? I'm curious if some BAC0 code could just run in an agent if the BACnet proxy has not been installed via typical VOLTTON development. Any tips/help greatly appreciated.

I get the feeling that the question might still be slight vague/open-ended (- possibly open to interpretation), but if you're talking about exposing some custom (/additional?) objects via BACnet, then to be compliant with a BACnet 'client' - such as the BMS, you'd have to include those objects within the Device's/device-object's 'Object-List' property, so that the BACnet clients would recognise it's availability.

(One day someone could try to be clever - for security reasons and support the Read-Property service for objects without having them available/advertised within the Object-List but 1) it would only work if they were also developing the client too - with knowledge of this, and 2) it would not be compliant with the standard.)

Disclaimer: This is a generic answer. I do not have any network device to test this fully so you might have to adapt a bit after reading the documentation

Your are taking this the wrong way. You don't need set_fact at all and both method you are trying to use (user/pass or provider dict) are actually deprecated. Ansible treats you network device as any host and will use the available user and password you have configured if they exist.

In the following example, I'm assuming your playbook only targets network devices and that the login/pass stored in your vault is the same on all devices.

VLOOKUP style query with wildcards in range portion
            Asked 2021-Jan-14 at 18:39

I am working on an automatic tagging project and was wondering if there was a way to search for the first instance of a string contained within the search string:

Tag Table name contains tag to apply A/C HVAC Air Conditioner HVAC Lights Lighting Elevator Elevator ... Name table name inferred tag A/C 1 HVAC A/C 2 HVAC Elevator 4 Elevator Elevator 4 Lights Lighting ...

basically I want the inferred tag to be tag to apply the first time name contains an item in name contains

VLOOKUP almost works but it only supports wildcards in the search item but not the range portion so I can't apply && wildcards to the Tag Table and do VLOOKUP that way unfortunately

I've done something similar in the past with scripts but I was hoping there was a way to do it with regular functions

One thing I though of doing is transposing the Tag Table and doing a see if each tag table name contains is in the name table name but the sizes of each table caused the sheet to reach the max allowed cells (~40000 names and ~280 tags)

Message certificate verify failed doesn't mean the client is not authenticated, it means that your client couldn't verify the server's authenticity because you're not providing it any CA cert bundle to check the server's cert against.

            From hvac documentation:

verify (Union[bool, str]) – Either a boolean to indicate whether TLS verification should be performed when sending requests to Vault, or a string pointing at the CA bundle to use for verification.

So instead of verify=False you should do verify="/path/to/ca_certs.pem".

When you did verify=False, the True meant that the client was correctly authenticated, so you should be able to interact with Vault this way, but not verifying the server's cert means you're vulnerable to DNS spoofing & MITM attacks.
