Are VS Code Extensions also free for commercial use?
            Asked 2021-Jun-15 at 08:00

In the FAQ page of VS Code, there is a clear answer that VS Code itself is free for commercial use. But, are VS Code "Extensions" also free for commercial use?

When I just look over the Marketplace, each Extension is made by a different person/team/company. Therefore, it seems that not all extensions are free for commercial use. (Maybe it depends on the publisher)

Then, how can I check if Extensions are free or not?

More specifically, are "Python"(by Microsoft) and "Python for VSCode"(by Thomas Haakon Townsend) free for commercial use?

            ...

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-15 at 08:00

VSCode extensions are considered as "open source" projects, so each one of them would have its own license. Both Microsoft's vscode-python and Thomas Haakon's Python-vscode use MIT License, which allow commercial usage with no problems. Microsoft's new Python language server pylance is not open source, but it allows the usage of any number of copies with Visual Studio or VSCode, according to their license

How to pull an upstream branch that doesn't yet exist in my forked remote origin repo?
            Asked 2021-Jun-14 at 21:54

Another branch was created on the upstream repo. Let's call it features/demo. Three branches now exist, Master, Develop and features/demo.

My forked repo only has Master and Develop. The forked repo is set as the origin and is my local cloned copy.

How do I pull the upstream branch into my local? Every time I try it wants to merge into Develop or Master because that's what any new branch I make is checked out from.

That's the definition of pull as delivered (with factory-default options): fetch and merge.

You just want to fetch. At the factory default settings,

The problem is that there is a space character after ssh-rsa in a public key, so when you pass it unquoted to a shell script, it will split the different space-separated parts into separate parameters.

How to include a counter in FlatFileItemWriter in Spring Batch when writing rows to a csv file
            Asked 2021-Jun-08 at 06:42

So, I'm using FlatFileItemWriter to write a csv file from data that I can successfully read from a database.

I'm struggling with how to write an integer number (i.e., row counter) corresponding to the row that I'm writing to the file. Seems like an easy thing to do, but quite simply I am stumped.

Everything is working (file is being produced from the data being read from a database). But I just can't seem to figure out how to implement my getCount() method in a way that gets me the corresponding row's count. I'm thinking it has something to do with leveraging the ChunkContext, but I can't seem to figure it out.

So I have the following in bean in my job configuration.

You can use the ItemCountAware interface for that. This interface is to implement by your domain object (which seems to be Customer in your case) and will be called at reading time by any reader that extends AbstractItemCountingItemStreamItemReader.

So if your reader is one them, you can get the item count on your items and use it as needed in your LineAggregator.

EDIT: add option when the reader does not extend AbstractItemCountingItemStreamItemReader

You can always assign the item number in a ItemReadListener#afterRead and use that in your aggregator, something like:

Since the shuffle functions shuffle the arrays indexes, you can just shuffle the array the same way you did but add name strings in the array.

Why is hash index slower using "Less than" in SQL
            Asked 2021-Jun-03 at 22:23

I've finished my first semester in a college-level SQL course where we used "SQL queries for Mere Mortals" 3rd edition.

Long term I want to work in data governance or as a data scientist, so digging deeper is needed and I found the Stanford SQL course. Today taking the first mini quiz, I got the answers right but on these two I'm not understanding WHY I got the answers right.

My 'SQL for Mere Mortals' book doesn't even cover hash or tree-based indexes so I've been searching online for them.

I mostly guessed based on what she said but it feels more like luck than "I solidly understand why". So I've ordered "Introduction to Algorithms" 3rd edition by Thomas Cormen and it arrived last week but it will take me a while to read through all 1,229 pages.

Found that book in this other stackoverflow link =>https://stackoverflow.com/questions/66515417/why-is-hash-function-fast

            Stanford Course => https://www.edx.org/course/databases-5-sql

I thought a hash index on College.enrollment would not speed up because they limit it to less than a number vs an actual number ?? I'm guessing per this link Better to use "less than equal" or "in" in sql query that the query would be faster if we used "<=" rather than "<" ?

This one was just a process of elimination as it mentions the first item after the WHERE clause, but then was confusing as it mentions the last part of Apply.cName = College.cName.

            My questions:

            1. I'm guessing that similar to algebra having numerators and denominators, quotients, and many other terms that specifically describe part of an equation using technical terms. How would you use technical terms to describe why these answers are correct.

            2. On the second question, why is the first part of the second line referenced and the last part of the same line referenced as the answers. Why didn't they pick the first part of each of the last part of each?

For context, most of my SQL queries are written for PostgreSQL now within PyCharm on python but I do a lot of practice using the PgAgmin4 or MySqlWorkbench desktop platforms.

I welcome any recommendations you have on paper books or pdf's that have step-by-step tutorials as many, many websites have holes or reference technical details that are confusing.

            Thanks

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Jun-03 at 22:22

            1. A hash index is only useful for equality matches, whereas a tree index can be used for inequality (< or >= etc).

With this in mind, College.enrollment < 5000 cannot use a hash index, as it is an inequality. All other options are exact equality matches.

This is why most RDBMSs only let you create tree-based indexes.

            2. This one is pretty much up in the air.

"the first item after the WHERE clause" is not relevant. Most RDBMSs will reorder the joins and filters as they see fit in order to match indexes and table statistics.

I note that the query as given is poorly written. It should use proper JOIN syntax, which is much clearer, and has been in use for 30 years already.

I'm assuming you don't really need a cross join of 'person' with 'person'. So I'm dropping that logic from the sources.

I don't have and Oracle instance to work with, but I believe the code below, which uses a case statement to achieve your conditional need, should work for you:

            ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException while returning Kafka results
            Asked 2021-Jun-03 at 07:31

i'm developping a custom Talend component in Java to read data from a Kafka topic, my goal is to process these data in real time and write them into a file.

My Java code is working when the data I got are not too big, otherwise I get this error:

            JAVA ERROR: ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

I understood that the data I sent are too big so I have 2 questions:

            • is there a way to increase the maximal size of data I send ?
            • How can I optimize my code: in the code below I'm able to count the number of lines I got from Kafka in each polls, I thought that I could split the data (for example 10 per 10) but the problem is that I can use "return" only once, and that's why I sent everything after my loop.

            Here is my Java code:

Editing the memory and JVM settings To gain in performance at runtime and when launching Talend Studio you can edit the memory settings in the .ini file.

By default, the .ini file sets the following JVM parameters:

            --launcher.XXMaxPermSize512m -vmargs -Xms64m -Xmx768m -Xdock:icon=../Resources/talend.icns -XstartOnFirstThread -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8

With 8 GB of memory available on 64-bit system, the optimal settings can be:

            --launcher.XXMaxPermSize512m -vmargs -Xms2014m -Xmx4096m -XstartOnFirstThread -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8

In my experience, these errors on Unix often stem from missing external libraries. For example, installing the R xml2 package requires libxml2-dev to be installed via the system package manager (i.e. outside R) otherwise installation will fail.

I can't read French, but it looks to me as though the dependency jpeg failed, due to a missing external jpeg library, and then everything cascaded from there. You could try installing some version of the libjpeg library. I know it comes pre-installed in Ubuntu which may be why that worked for you. I'm a little surprised it doesn't come installed already in OpenSUSE, but I have no experience with OpenSUSE.
