Your mistake is most probable the fact that you are confusing the way you update the state created with hooks with the way you are updating it in class components.

If you see below image, the first two drop downs have similar look, but 3rd one has a different look.

            1. List item

In first two I used CountryDropdown and RegionDropdown ( react-country-region-selector ). But for the 3rd one, I used react-select.

            • Issue

Look of CountryDropdown and RegionDropdown are not matching with the 3rd Select component.

            • Expectation

CountryDropdown and RegionDropdown should have same style ( Look and feel ) as of the 3rd Select component.

These two libraries don't really seem compatible with each other. The CountryDropdown and RegionDropdown are an unstyled select components with the data built-in, and the Select is a fully styled select component that unfortunately does not work as a wrapper from what I can tell. You have a few options here... Simplest being just to add styling directly to the Dropdown components and make it look as similar to the Select as possible. Otherwise, it might make sense to look for a different library OR you could get the data directly from this repo https://github.com/country-regions/country-region-data and pass as props into Select, which would probably allow you to achieve exactly what you want to but would also be the most time consuming.

Create custom Country-State selection with React + Material UI

This question might sound stupid, please pardon my little knowledge. I saw a JSON data on country-region. I want to consume that JSON data by accessing the countries and region through Material UI Select Component. Basically, i want to create mine using MUI select Component.

How do i pass the Json Data to the select field of the Country, change the region based on the country

            just like this library

            https://www.npmjs.com/package/react-country-region-selector

The reason why i don't want this is because it is very complex to add styles, and i don't want to have a different style since i'm using MUI.

if the component is: These components by default will use The MUI

I created a file countries.js and added two countries and two regions for both. They have the same schema as counties and regions in react-country-region-selector library.

The logic is simple: while you didn’t choose any country you can't choose any region. Both keeps in state.

react-country-region-selector is a library made for React (on the web), not React Native. It includes HTML markup, which is not supported by React Native.

The reason for this exact error message is because

is recognised as a text string (not HTML tag, not a component), and since it's not rendered within a component you get this specific error.

I believe when you wrapped e.preventDefault() in a conditional on your form submission that this is the root cause of the problem; as it prevents default actions -- in this case, the default action is to prevent a page refresh -- from firing (which is what we always want when working with React!).

That said, I've refactored your code to be less WET (Write Everything Twice) and made your components reusable and more flexible. There are some detailed notes that you can read to help understand the flow and my decision making. Since this is for a job interview, if you really want to impress, start writing tests for your components -- not only will they work, but they'll be backed by tests that prove they work (or break, if the codebase changes)!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Working example: (includes form validation, adding an item to a list and editing an item in place from a list)

On a side note, I'd avoid free tutorials as they're usually old/unmaintained, filled with syntax mistakes, and preach bad habits. If you're serious about web development, I'd highly recommend investing in some paid tutorials (like this one -- usually on sale for ~$10) as they're from industry professionals, maintained by the teacher or TAs, and tend to go more in depth about how stuff works.

How can I create connected/dependent select elements in Formik?
            Asked 2020-Mar-04 at 02:29

I have two select boxes, one for country and another for region. When someone selects a country, I need to populate the region select with different values (asynchronously).

I'm aware of react-country-region-selector and react-select, but those solutions seem like overkill for such a simple task.

In the code below, the regions are populated correctly after selecting a country, but the value of the country select is lost. Also, should I be setting state in the constructor or should Formik be handling all state?
