GitHub Actions Upload Artifact not finding provided path from npm run build
            Asked 2021-Jun-05 at 01:09

I'm trying to set up a react website using CICD principles. I can run it locally, use 'npm run build' to get a build folder, and the website works fine when I manually push the files to S3. However, when I try to run the build and deployment through github actions, the upload-artifacts step gives the following warning: 'Warning: No files were found with the provided path: build. No artifacts will be uploaded.' Obviously the deploy job then fails since it can't find any artifacts to download. Why exactly is this happening? The build folder is definitely being created since running ls after the build lists it as one of the folders in the current working directory.

It turns out that my knowledge of github actions was incomplete. When setting a default working directory for jobs, the default directory is only used by commands that use 'run'. Hence all of the 'uses' actions are run in the base directory. I guess I've never encountered this issue since I've never tried uploading/downloading artifacts that weren't created in a base github directory.

Fixed the issue by changing the path from 'build/' to 'frontend/build'.

Github actions pull request output link
            Asked 2020-Nov-02 at 12:37

I am using s3 bucket, to deploy my html website. Now I have created a github action that will deploy to s3 buckeet when pushed to main.

Now I have created a develop branch and want to merge my changes to master using Pull Request, I have written another github action to sync to s3 bucket when a PR is created on master to view the changes before merging it.

I am able to create a PR and the github action is also triggered, and the s3 bucket is getting synced and website is deployed, thing is I want the link of the website to be in the PR as well.

I am unable to figure that out. Is it possible to display the link to the website when the action is completed?

If you know the website link upfront (or you are able to retrieve it in some automated way) then you can add it as a PR comment after deploying the website to S3. You can use a dedicated GitHub Action to add a customized PR comment with a link to the deployed website. There are plenty of them on GitHub Marketplace.

Turns out none of the package.json config options were working for me. I wound up implementing a .mocharc.json on the same level as my package.json which worked perfectly.

you have to make this a huge, single bash command; make executes each line separately in the shell and variables are not available in later steps. To improve readability/maintainability, I would replace the test -f ... && xxx statements here by if blocks.

I'm trying to deploy locally a simple Kubernetes application through Minikube and docker to test the sidecar container pattern.

Let's start with the sidecar container elements:

The /usr directory contains a variety of system and application software. In particular, the Python binary is typically in /usr/bin/python3 on a Linux system (or container).

Your Kubernetes YAML mounts an emptyDir volume over /usr. That hides everything that was in that directory tree, including the Python binary and all of the Python system libraries. That leads to this error.

Mounting the volume somewhere else would avoid this problem. Containerized applications tend to not be overly picky about "standard" FHS paths, so I might set instead

I'm attempting to upload files to my S3 bucket and then return out of my upload function. The problem is that I'm returning out of the function before the upload returns the stored data.

I've attempted to use async/await with s3.upload, but I don't believe s3.upload is a promise so it doesn't do anything.

Put the word call in front of aws s3 sync ...

The program aws is actually a script. When this script exits, it terminates the environment which means no futher commands will run. Adding call prevents this so that the next command in your batch file will run.
