QUESTION
I've been trying to improve our PS documentation and started playing with PlatyPS. So far, it's been great, I have nice markdown docs now. I'm also able to generate MAML for use with CLI documentation from it and have been able to remove the doc-comment strings from my modules.
Unfortunately, when I import my module it's unable to see the MAML help files and Get-Help
for my exported function is very barebones.
My understanding is that when packaging MAML within a module, they need to be placed as follows:
...ANSWER
Answered 2022-Feb-09 at 05:09As it turns out, I was hitting a problem when generating the MAML from the markdown source. I was following this guide to PlatyPS and New-ExternalHelp
was not generating help for the commands I happened to be testing with.
These commands were not named with the Verb-Noun
nomenclature, and the files shared a name with their matching function. I took one of the functions and gave it a Verb-Noun
name instead and did the same with its corresponding .md
file. With a pattern of Verb-Noun.md
, New-ExternalHelp
now generated the command's MAML and placed them inside of MyModuleName-help.xml
.
However, this is not what I wanted. These particular functions are named like commands on purpose, and I do not want to follow the Verb-Noun
nomenclature for them. An edge case, probably, but I did find a solution for this as well. After a bit of testing, only the command name in the source .md
file for that command matters as far as MAML generation.
The filename needs to match the Verb-Noun.md
pattern, but you can have the command called FunctionName
inside and the help will generate correctly for the command FunctionName
, not Verb-Noun
. Now when I import the module, I get the correct help topic for the commands that were previously missing.
Now my .md
file no longer matches the command name but that isn't the end of the world.
QUESTION
I was going through the omniglot maml example and saw that they have net.train()
at the top of their testing code. This seems like a mistake since that means the stats from each task at meta-testing is shared:
ANSWER
Answered 2021-Nov-25 at 19:54TLDR: Use mdl.train()
since that uses batch statistics (but inference will not be deterministic anymore). You probably won't want to use mdl.eval()
in meta-learning.
BN intended behaviour:
- Importantly, during inference (eval/testing) running_mean, running_std is used - that was calculated from training(because they want a deterministic output and to use estimates of the population statistics).
- During training the batch statistics is used but a population statistic is estimated with running averages. I assume the reason batch_stats is used during training is to introduce noise that regularizes training (noise robustness)
- in meta-learning I think using batch statistics is the best during testing (and not calculate the running means) since we are supposed to be seeing new /tasksdistribution anyway. Price we pay is loss of determinism. Could be interesting just out of curiosity what the accuracy is using population stats estimated from meta-trian.
This is likely why I don't see divergence in my testing with the mdl.train()
.
So just make sure you use mdl.train()
(since that uses batch statistics https://pytorch.org/docs/stable/generated/torch.nn.BatchNorm2d.html#torch.nn.BatchNorm2d) but that either the new running stats that cheat aren't saved or used later.
QUESTION
I'm looking for a regex to match here strings in PowerShell @'...'@
and @"..."@
are here strings
Rules:
- Always new line is followed after start(
@'
or@"
) - There's no character after end (
'@
or"@
), it always is at the line start, however more text can follow it up - The outer
@' .. '@
may include an inner@" "@
but in this case the outer will be matched.
Examples
- Example where outer (including
hello
) will be matched
ANSWER
Answered 2021-Sep-08 at 03:48You're better off using PowerShell's language parser, System.Management.Automation.Language.Parser
, rather than a regex-based solution.[1]
I'm assuming you're always interested in the outer here-string, not one that happens to be nested inside another.
Assuming a file file.ps1
with the following verbatim content:
QUESTION
I am doing a meta learning research and am using the MAML optimization provided by learn2learn. However as one of the baseline, I would like to test a non-meta-learning approach, i.e. the traditional training + testing.
Due to the lightning's internal usage of optimizer it seems that it is difficult to make the MAML work with learn2learn in lightning, so I couldn't use lightning in my meta-learning setup, however for my baseline, I really like to use lightning in that it provides many handy functionalities like deepspeed or ddp out of the box.
Here is my question, other than setting up two separate folders/repos, how could I mix the vanilia pytorch (learn2learn) with pytorch lightning (baseline)? What is the best practice?
Thanks!
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Jul-14 at 18:27Decided to answer my question. So I ended up using the torch lightning's manual optimization so that I can customize the optimization step. This would make both approaches using the same framework, and I think is better than maintaining 2 separate repos.
QUESTION
I am tring implement MAML.I have a problem,so I write a simple version which can show my confusion. If you use 'optimizer.apply_gradients' update gradient,it can get model weight by 'model.get_weights()'.But if you update gradient by yourself,it just get empty list by 'model.get_weights()'.
...ANSWER
Answered 2020-Jul-15 at 07:34It is not a tensorflow bug :) You are updating the Variables
of your model with basic Tensors, so in the second iteration, when you call .gradient(support_loss, model.trainable_variables)
your model actually doesn't have any trainable variables anymore.
Modify your code like so to use the methods for manipulating Variables:
QUESTION
when doing MAML (Model agnostic meta-learning) there are two ways to do the inner loop:
...ANSWER
Answered 2020-Jun-30 at 18:49The only difference is that in second approach you'll have to keep much more stuff in memory - until you call backward
you'll have all unrolled parameters fnet.parameters(time=T)
(along with intermediate computation tensors) for each of task_num
iterations as part of the graph for the aggregated meta_loss
. If you call backward
on every task then you only need to keep full set of unrolled parameters (and other pieces of the graph) for one task.
So to answer your question's title: because in this case the memory footprint is task_num
times bigger.
In a nutshell what you're doing is similar to comparing loopA(N)
and loopB(N)
in the following code. Here loopA
will get as much memory as it can and OOM with sufficiently large N
, while loopB
will use about same amount of memory for any large N

Install maml
You can use maml like any standard Python library. You will need to make sure that you have a development environment consisting of a Python distribution including header files, a compiler, pip, and git installed. Make sure that your pip, setuptools, and wheel are up to date. When using pip it is generally recommended to install packages in a virtual environment to avoid changes to the system.
