lidar is a Python package for delineating the nested hierarchy of surface depressions in digital elevation models (DEMs). In traditional hydrological modeling, surface depressions in a DEM are commonly treated as artifacts and thus filled and removed to create a depressionless DEM, which can then be used to generate continuous stream networks. In reality, however, surface depressions in DEMs are commonly a combination of spurious and actual terrain features. Fine-resolution DEMs derived from Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data can capture and represent actual surface depressions, especially in glaciated and karst landscapes. During the past decades, various algorithms have been developed to identify and delineate surface depressions, such as depression filling, depression breaching, hybrid breaching-filling, and contour tree method. More recently, a level-set method based on graph theory was proposed to delineate the nested hierarchy of surface depressions. The lidar Python package implements the level-set method and makes it possible for delineating the nested hierarchy of surface depressions as well as elevated terrain features. It also provides an interactive Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows users to run the program with minimal coding.

            I have a XV-11 Lidar sensor from an old vacuum cleaner and I want to use it for a robot project. During my research, I saw a very interesting and simple approach using Matplotlib and display all the distances using scatter points. eg (https://udayankumar.com/2018/08/01/working-with-lidar/) but when I run this python code to RP3 indeed a Matplotlib window is popping up with all the distances but the refresh rate for data it's too slow and impossible to view in real time. I mean the matplotlib display is falling behind a few dozens of seconds with all the sensor readings. My next idea was to do something by myself with the following display lines but I have same result: Good readings but delayed a lot.

            You are clearing and re-creating the axes, background etc. every time. At the very least you can limit this drawing/re-drawing to only the relevant plot points for a degree of improvement.

            If you're not familiar with this I'd start with the animation guidance- https://matplotlib.org/stable/api/animation_api.html which introduces some basics like updating only parts of the figure.

            If you're still churning out too much data to update then limiting the frequency with which you read your data or more specifically the rate at which you redraw might result in more stability too.

            I'm using QLPreviewController to show AR content. With the newer iPhones with LIDAR it seems that object occlusion is enabled by default.

            Is there any way to disable object occlusion in the QLVideoController without having to build a custom ARKit view controller? Since my models are quite large (life-size buildings), they seem to disappear or get cut off at the end.

            ARQuickLook is a library built for quick and high-quality AR visualization. It adopts RealityKit engine, so all supported here features, like occlusion, anchors, raytraced shadows, physics, DoF, motion blur, HDR, etc, look the same way as they look in RealityKit.

            However, you can't turn on/off these features in QuickLook's API. They are on by default, if supported on your iPhone. In case you want to turn on/off People Occlusion you have to use ARKit/RealityKit frameworks, not QuickLook.

            I use VoxelNet as backbone, which will shrink the image for 8 times. The size of my voxel is 0.1m x 0.1m x 0.2m(height)

            So given an input bird-eye-view image size of 1408 x 1024,

            the extracted feature map size would be 176 x 128, shrunk for 8 times.

            The ego translation of the car between the "images"(point clouds actually) is 1 meter in both x and y direction. Am I right to adjust the feature map for 1.25 pixels?

            It's caused by the function torch.nn.functional.affine_grid I used.

            I didn't fully understand this function before I use it.

            These vivid images would be very helpful on showing what this function actually do(with comparison to the affine transformations in Numpy.

            Looking at the link you shared, I see the OBB object has the following properties: center, extent and R. If you can access them then you can get position and orientation. Center is a point (x,y,z), extent are three lengths in x, y and z direction and R is a rotation matrix. Columns of R are three orthogonal unit-vectors pointing on rotated x, y and z directions.

            I think you are interested in orientation, so R is the orientation matrix. You can convert it to quaternion using the matrix-to-quaternion method on this page: https://www.euclideanspace.com/maths/geometry/rotations/conversions/matrixToQuaternion/

            iOS ARKit breaks regular camera quality

            I'm using two separate iOS libraries that make use of the device's camera.

            The first one, is a library used to capture regular photos using the camera. The second one, is a library that uses ARKit to measure the world.

            Somehow, after using the ARKit code, the regular camera quality (with the exact same settings and initialization code) renders a much lower quality (a lot of noise in the image, looks like post-processing is missing) preview and captured image. A full app restart is required to return the camera to its original quality.

            I know this may be vague, but here's the code for each library (more or less). Any ideas what could be missing? Why would ARKit permanently change the camera's settings? I could easily fix it if I knew which setting is getting lost/changed after ARKit is used.

            It happens because ARKit's maximum output resolution is lower than the camera's. You can check ARWorldTrackingConfiguration.supportedVideoFormats for a list of ARConfiguration.VideoFormat to see all available resolutions for the current device.
