Access Denied You are not authorized to access Monitoring
            Asked 2022-Apr-01 at 20:21

I have an elasticSearch cluster with 3 master and 2 data nodes. In addition, I have another node with KIbana and ElasticSearch (role=[] --coordinating-node)

The cluster is working, and I can launch the KIbana UI. However, I see the following error when I access stack monitoring

Access Denied You are not authorized to access Monitoring. To use Monitoring, you need the privileges granted by both the kibana_admin and monitoring_user roles.

If you are attempting to access a dedicated monitoring cluster, this might be because you are logged in as a user that is not configured on the monitoring cluster.

You need to add remote_cluster_clientrole to the nodes.

Elasticsearch service hang and kills while data insertion jvm heap
            Asked 2021-Dec-04 at 14:11

I am using elasticsearch 5.6.13 version, I need some experts configurations for the elasticsearch. I have 3 nodes in the same system (node1,node2,node3) where node1 is master and else 2 data nodes. I have number of indexes around 40, I created all these indexes with default 5 primary shards and some of them have 2 replicas. What I am facing the issue right now, My data (scraping) is growing day by day and I have 400GB of the data in my one of index. similarly 3 other indexes are also very loaded. From some last days I am facing the issue while insertion of data my elasticsearch hangs and then the service is killed which effect my processing. I have tried several things. I am sharing the system specs and current ES configuration + logs. Please suggest some solution.

The System Specs: RAM: 160 GB, CPU: AMD EPYC 7702P 64-Core Processor, Drive: 2 TB SSD (The drive in which the ES installed still have 500 GB left)

ES Configuration JVM options: -Xms26g, -Xmx26g (I just try this but not sure what is the perfect heap size for my scenario) I just edit this above lines and the rest of the file is as defult. I edit this on all three nodes jvm.options files.

My issue is solved, It is due to the heap size issue, actually I am running the ES as service and the heap size is by default 2 GB and it is not reflecting. I just install the new service with the updated options.jvm file with heap size of 10 GB, and then run my cluster. It reflect the heap size from 2 GB to 10 GB. And my problem is solved. Thanks for the suggestions.

to check your heap size use this command.

How can I see the MessageTemplate when using Serilog WriteTo.Console?
            Asked 2021-Dec-02 at 00:37

I'm using Serilog for logging and am using the Console writer to send logs to standard output to be picked up by Filebeat and sent to Elastic. The configuration of the logger includes the following:

            .WriteTo.Console(outputTemplate: "[{Timestamp:HH:mm:ss} {Level:u3}] {Message:lj}{Properties:j}{NewLine}{Exception}")

This is all fine, the structured properties are output and rendered in JSON format correctly, however, it's missing the MessageTemplate property value which would output something similar to:

            "MessageTemplate":"User {Username} logged in successfully"

This is a problem because it would be useful to be able to run queries in Kibana to show the number of times users are logging in by searching for the message template rather than the rendered message which would be specific to a single user, for example:

"Message":"User "Joe Bloggs" logged in successfully"

I can see that I can use the JsonFormatter object to write to the console using:

            .WriteTo.Console(new JsonFormatter(renderMessage: true))

Using this method outputs both the Message and the MessageTemplate properties, but it does so in an ugly blob of JSON which is really hard to read when a person is viewing the logs on the command line.

Does anyone know if it's possible for the Serilog Console Output template to include the MessageTemplate?

If a pod crashes, all logs still will be accessible in efk. No need to add a persistent volume to the pod with your application only for storing log file.

Main question is how to get logs from this file. There are two main approaches which are suggested and based on kubernetes documentation:

            1. Use a sidecar container.

Containers in pod have the same file system and sidecar container will be streaming logs from file to stdout and/or stderr (depends on implementation) and after logs will be picked up by kubelet.

Please find streaming sidecar container and example how it works.

            2. Use a sidecar container with a logging agent.

Please find Sidecar container with a logging agent and configuration example using fluentd. In this case logs will be collected by fluentd and they won't be available by kubectl logs commands since kubelet is not responsible for these logs.

In Elasticsearch's HTTP API, you can have a bucketing aggregation and a metric aggregation in a single request to the _search API. In Kibana's Vega environment, how can you create a Vega visualization which uses a single _search request with a buckets aggregation and a metric aggregation; and then makes a chart with one layer using data from the buckets and one layer using data from the metric?

Initial ingress rule passes the same path /apm to the APM service, which is confirmed by error in APM pod's logs - "message":"404 page not found","url.original":"/apm"

To fix it, nginx ingress has rewrite annotation. The way it works is described in the link with example.
