How backup/export graphics stored in Zebra printer memory?
            Asked 2021-May-18 at 12:32

I have a Zebra printer and inside its memory there are some images (GRF files) that I want to export as backup, is it possibile to do it? I discovered only how to upload to the printer new images, print images but I did not find any way to download it from the printer to the computer.

For this you will want to use the HZ command. It will return the graphic in a way you can send it to another printer.

            From the Zebra ZPL manual:

            ^HZ

            Display Description Information

The ^HZ command is used for returning printer description information in XML format. The printer returns information on format parameters, object directories, individual object data, and print status information.

            Format: ^HZb

            Format: ^HZO,d:o.x,l

            Parameters Details

b = display description to return

            Values:

            a = display all information

f = display printer format setting information

l = display object directory listing information

o = display individual object data information

r = display printer status information

Default: if the value is missing or invalid, the command is ignored

            Parameters Details

d = location of stored object

            Values: R:, E:, B:, and A:

            Default: R:

o = object name Values: 1 to 8, or 1 to 16 alphanumeric characters based on parameter l.

Default: if a name is not specified, UNKNOWN is used.

x = extension Supported extensions for objects (parameter o) include:

            .FNT — font

            .GRF — graphic

            .PNG — compressed graphic

            .ZPL — stored format

            .DAT — encoding table

            .ZOB — downloadable object

            .STO — Alert data file

l = long filename support Values:

            Y = Yes

If Y, the object data stores the filename as 16 characters. The data is only compatible with firmware version V60.13.0.5, or later.

            N = No

If N, the object data stores the filename as 8 characters. The data is forward and backward compatible with all versions of firmware.

            Default: N

Example: This example shows the object data information for the object SAMPLE.GRF located on R:.

Does it matter to encode ascii vs utf-8?
            Asked 2021-Mar-23 at 13:01

Been wondering for a while whether there's a difference with encode('utf-8') vs encode('ascii') when all character are below 127.

When sending an encoded string to a zebra printer it does not seem to matter if ascii or utf-8 is sent. So, does it matter if one encodes to ascii or utf-8 when all characters are below 127?

They are definitely the same. Unless you are reading a file (which may have a BOM mark in the beginning, and that doesn't make sense for an ascii reader)

Generalized Random Forest / Causal Forest on Python
            Asked 2021-Feb-28 at 17:42

I was looking for the Generalized Random Forest / Causal Forest algorithm on Python, but found it only for R: https://github.com/grf-labs/grf

This algorithm cannot be obtained using the regular scikit-learn functions of Random Forest.

Is there any possible way that will help me to conduct Causal Forest or Generalized Random Forest on Python?

            ...

            ANSWER

            Answered 2021-Feb-28 at 12:44

I eventually found the correct answer for that question!

There is a great package by microsoft for Python called "EconML".

It contains several functions for generalized random forests and causal forests.

It is absolutely great for those who need some causal inference functions:

            https://econml.azurewebsites.net/

            https://github.com/microsoft/EconML

Just apply: pip install econml and things will become really organized and easy :)

            Zebra printer printing extra labels
            Asked 2020-Nov-17 at 13:19

I am using ZPL to print from a Zebra printer (QLN420 model)

Label size is 4" wide and 2" inches length

But when I send a job for an image that is 4 x 2 to print, it prints 3 labels, first 2 are empty and last one gets the image

When I send a job for an image that is 4x6 it print correctly on 3 labels of 4x2

The printer is set to stop by mark, meaning it stops with a black mark on the back of the label. When pressing on the printer feed it prints only 1 4x2 but when printing with ZPL it prints 3 (2 empty and then the image

I tried using ^LL and set it manually but it didn't help

(I am using C# create the ZPL and to send to the printer)

This is he ZPL that is send to the printer:

How to hook only the card which is clicked to grow open and reset the previously clicked card to go-back to closed using react functional hooks
            Asked 2020-Sep-07 at 09:16

I have 3 cards. Each card open and close respectively when clicked on it. I want to hook such that when i click one card the other card (previously clicked card) should get closed.

I think it can be done by using it's id, but i don't know how & where to hook to make it work. A sandbox would really be helpful.

Weird behavior with parameters on a ES6 Class
            Asked 2020-Aug-01 at 20:55

I have a class, which contains a parameter called values. This is used to save values of points that represent specific shapes on a canvas.

I need to implement a functionality that lets me drag those shapes around, so I need to modify each specific point of the shape, removing from them the amount that was dragged.

So I decided that, as I trigger my mousedown event (which is the method StartMove), i would save the values of my points on a startValues variable, and as I move my mouse around (method move), I would then update the values, using startValues and the distance between the starting point and the current mouse position to determine my new point location.

The problem is, this.startValues is actually getting changed to match this.values every time my cursor moves, and I have no idea why. Is there anything simple I'm missing?

Since I store my values as values, and not coordinates (helps me with panning and zooming on the canvas), I first convert the values to position, then modify the position and then convert it back to a value. I've included the parent class, Grf, so you can see the methods which change values to position and position to values.

            Class with the problems

How values are inserted into startValues and values in Test class? You probably insert exactly the same object in both without coping it so both arrays hold the same instances.

Take a look at the example:

Create PDF of Images in Django
            Asked 2020-Jul-31 at 09:02

In my Django Application I am creating Barcodes of an Object and up until then it works fine, the PNGs are created perfectly but How can I arrange them in a PDF in a 7x2 Grid such that they can be printed?

Is there any Library which takes the images as input and create a pdf with these images?

            Here's the code:

No need to look too far, the standard Pillow library does it quite well.

Here is some code that will do it, that was a nice exercise:

I am trying to convert an Alpha-Numeric Value to PNG and then in ZPL format. Both of them have different libraries and when used independently they work fine. Look at the code:

To call GRF.from_image, you need to pass a bytes-like object. Currently, you have saved your Drawing as a png file, then pass that the the function. Instead, you should open the saved png file and pass the read object to from_image like:
