I am currently working on integrating Sumo Logic in a AWS EKS cluster. After going through Sumo Logic's documentation on their integration with k8s I have arrived at the following section Installation Steps. This section of the documentation is a fork in the road where one must figure out if you want to continue with the installation :
- side by side with your existing Prometheus Operator
- and update your existing Prometheus Operator
- with your standalone Prometheus (not using Prometheus Operator)
- with no pre-existing Prometheus installation
With that said I am trying to figure out which scenario I am in as I am unsure. Let me explain, previous to working on this Sumo Logic integration I have completed the New Relic integration which makes me wonder if it uses Prometheus in any ways that could interfere with the Sumo Logic integration ?

- with your standalone Prometheus (not using Prometheus Operator)
Can you check and paste the output of kubectl get prometheus
. If you see any running prometheus, you can run kubectl describe prometheus $prometheus_resource_name
and check the labels to verify if it is deployed by the operator or it is a standalone prometheus.
In case it is deployed by Prometheus operator, you can use either of these approaches:
- side by side with your existing Prometheus Operator
- update your existing Prometheus Operator
QUESTION
I have a unique type of Kubernetes cluster that cannot install the Kubernetes Datadog agent. I would like to collect the logs of individual docker containers in my Kubernetes pods similar to how the Docker agent works.
I am currently collecting docker logs from Kubernetes and then using a script with the Datadog custom log forwarder to upload them to Datadog. I was curious if there is a better way to achieve this serverless collection of docker logs from Kubernetes clusters in datadog? The ideal situation I want is to plug my kubeconfig somewhere and then let Datadog take care of the rest without deploying anything onto my Kubernetes cluster.
Is there an option for that outside of creating a custom script?

Answered 2020-May-13 at 20:10A better way would be to use a sidecar container with a logging agent, it won't increase the load on the API server.
Datadog agent looks like doesn't support /suggest running as a sidecar (https://github.com/DataDog/datadog-agent/issues/2203#issuecomment-416180642)
I suggest looking at using other logging agent and pointing the backend to datadog.
Some options are:

Answered 2019-Oct-16 at 14:43The Terraform docs states that role_arn and distribution parameters should only be used with Kinesis stream destination. The error message simply states this fact that you cannot use IAM role parameter when the destination is Lambda.
role_arn - (Optional) If you use Lambda as a destination, you should skip this argument and use aws_lambda_permission resource for granting access from CloudWatch logs to the destination Lambda function.
distribution - (Optional) This property is only applicable when the destination is an Amazon Kinesis stream.

I'm trying to implement a Streaming Sidecar Container logging architecture in Kubernetes using Fluentd.
In a single pod I have:

- Application container
- Fluent log-forwarder container
Basically, the Application container logs are stored in the shared emptyDir volume. Fluentd log-forwarder container tails this log file in the shared emptyDir volume and forwards it an external log-aggregator.

I'm following the Restcomm Docker Quick Start Guide. I'm trying to launch restcomm connect on a "large" VM (8GB mem and 4vCPUs) on which I installed docker. I'm behind a corporate http proxy, so running "docker-compose up" out of the box was not enough. I created my own restcomm/restcomm docker image: I cloned the Restcomm-Docker git project and made a few changes:
I added http_proxy and https_proxy ENV instructions in Dockerfile and in scripts/{restcomm_autoconf.sh,restcomm_sslconf.sh} so that all the wgets could work.
I configured the VM ip address in Restcomm-Connect/docker-compose.yml in RCBCONF_STATIC_ADDRESS.
When I build the "custom" docker image, I have some error messages on the apt-get install step:

Answered 2018-Jan-05 at 17:34I found where the problem was coming from. It was related to the docker /var/lib/docker underlying filesystem. I had an xfs file system which was not formated with d_type support. I attached a new volume to my (openstack) VM, formatted it with d_type parameter and it worked! Actually, without this option, it messed the phusion/baseimage and then indirectly the restcomm image that relied on this image.
