QUESTION
Since there is aditional costs for using HTTP and REST apis on AWS lambda, i would like to know if i could make AWS Lambda receive gets and posts without the need of these HTTP API services.
In this example it seems to be possible:
https://github.com/serverless/examples/tree/master/aws-node-simple-http-endpoint
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-28 at 15:47You will need to use the API Gateway to expose your lambda. Your example is actually using an API Gateway, because the endpoint is execute-api.us-east-1.amazonaws.com and that is the Amazon API Gateway Data Plane.
Just to be clear; if you need to expose the Lambda externally you need to use the API Gateway. If the Lambda needs to be invoked internally then you don't need the API GW.

QUESTION
I am trying to implement row-level security on one table based on a separate users table. I've seen this talked about in places like this, but haven't been able to get things working for my case.
Users table:
Transactions table:
The table I'd like to secure is called Transactions. One of the fields in each row is CompanyID. The Users table contains three columns: AccountID
, UserEmail
, and CompanyID
. What I'd like is for only users assigned to given CompanyIDs to be able to view rows in the Transactions table with those CompanyIDs.
Since more than one User may view a given row, I established a one-to-many relationship from Transactions to Users on the CompanyID field.
I created a DAX expression that filters on the Users table with the following:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-Apr-05 at 13:31From the docs:
By default, row-level security filtering uses single-directional filters, whether the relationships are set to single direction or bi-directional. You can manually enable bi-directional cross-filtering with row-level security by selecting the relationship and checking the Apply security filter in both directions checkbox. Select this option when you've also implemented dynamic row-level security at the server level, where row-level security is based on username or login ID.

QUESTION
I am having trouble understanding how Streams work in terms of tracking changes. I would like to create a history table that tracks every UPDATE
and DELETE
to a table, but I am finding I do not understand how this works.
If I have table Table1
with a Stream:
ANSWER
Answered 2020-Aug-17 at 13:45To quote the Snowflake documentation: "A stream stores the current transactional version of a table and is the appropriate source of CDC records in most scenarios."
Have a look at this example in the Snowflake documentation: https://docs.snowflake.com/en/user-guide/streams.html#example-1
My understanding is that a stream will only hold the current version of a record until you advance the offset. So if you insert a record and then update it, before advancing the offset, then it will show a single insert but the fields will hold the latest values.
If you then advance the offset and update or delete the record then those events will show in the stream - though if you updated and then deleted the same record (before advancing the offset) the stream would just show the delete, as that's the last position for that record.
UPDATE 1 It sounds like you are trying to implement audit tracking for every change made to a record in a table - this is not what Streams are designed to do and I don't think you would be able to implement a solution, using Streams, that guaranteed to log every change.
If you read the Streams documentation it states "The stream can provide the set of changes from the current offset to the current transactional time of the source table (i.e. the current version of the table). The stream maintains only the delta of the changes; if multiple DML statements change a row, the stream contains only the latest action taken on that row."
CDC is a terminology specifically related to loading data warehouses and is never meant as a generic term for capturing every change made to a record.
If you want to create a genuine auditing capability in Snowflake then I'm afraid I don't know if that is possible. The time travel feature shows that Snowflake retains all the changes made to a record (within the retention period) but I'm not aware of any way of accessing just these changes; I think you can only access the history of a record at points in time and you have no way of knowing at what times any changes were made
UPDATE 2 Just realised that Snowflake allows Change Tracking on a table without necessarily using Streams. This is probably a better solution if you want to capture all changes to a table, not just the latest version. The functionality is documented here: https://docs.snowflake.com/en/sql-reference/constructs/changes.html

QUESTION
I managed to deploy my first cloudflare worker using serverless framework according to https://serverless.com/framework/docs/providers/cloudflare/guide/ and it is working when I hit the cloud.
During development, would like to be able to test on http://localhost:8080/*
What is the simplest way to bring up a local http server and handle my requests using function specified in serverless.yml?
I looked into https://github.com/serverless/examples/tree/master/google-node-simple-http-endpoint but there is no "start" script.
There seem to be no examples for cloudflare on https://github.com/serverless/
...ANSWER
Answered 2018-Dec-23 at 22:25At present, there is no way to run the real Cloudflare Workers runtime locally. The Workers team knows that developers need this, but it will take some work to separate the core Workers runtime from the rest of Cloudflare's software stack, which is otherwise too complex to run locally.
In the meantime, there are a couple options you can try instead:
Third-party emulatorCloudworker is an emulator for Cloudflare Workers that runs locally on top of node.js. It was built by engineers at Dollar Shave Club, a company that uses Workers, not by Cloudflare. Since it's an entire independent implementation of the Workers environment, there are likely to be small differences between how it behaves vs. the "real thing". However, it's good enough to get some work done.
Preview Service APIThe preview seen on cloudflareworkers.com can be accessed via API. With some curl
commands, you can upload your code to cloudflareworkers.com and run tests on it. This isn't really "local", but if you're always connected to the internet anyway, it's almost the same. You don't need any special credentials to use this API, so you can write some scripts that use it to run unit tests, etc.
Upload a script called worker.js
by POST
ing it to https://cloudflareworkers.com/script

QUESTION
I have a setup where I'm pushing events to kafka
and then running a Kafka Streams application on the same cluster. Is it fair to say that the only way to scale the Kafka Streams
application is to scale the kafka
cluster itself by adding nodes or increasing Partitions
?
In that case, how do I ensure that my consumers will not bring down the cluster and ensure that the critical pipelines are always "on"
. Is there any concept of Topology Priority
which can avoid a possible downtime? I want to be able to expose the streams for anyone to build applications on without compromising the core pipelines. If the solution is to setup another kafka cluster, does it make more sense to use Apache storm
instead, for all the adhoc queries? (I understand that a lot of consumers could still cause issues with the kafka
cluster, but at least the topology
processing is isolated now)
ANSWER
Answered 2017-Jan-27 at 04:47It is not recommended to run your Streams application on the same servers as your brokers (even if this is technically possible). Kafka's Streams API offers an application-based approach -- not a cluster-based approach -- because it's a library and not a framework.
It is not required to scale your Kafka cluster to scale your Streams application. In general, the parallelism of a Streams application is limited by the number of partitions of your app's input topics. It is recommended to over-partition your topic (the overhead for this is rather small) to guard against scaling limitations.
Thus, it is even simpler to "offer anyone to build applications" as everyone owns their application. There is no need to submit apps to a cluster. They can be executed anywhere you like (thus, each team can deploy their Streams application the same way by which they deploy any other application they have). Thus, you have many deployment options from a WAR file, over YARN/Mesos, to containers (like Kubernetes). Whatever works best for you.
Even if frameworks like Flink, Storm, or Samza offer cluster management, you can only use such tools that are integrated with those frameworks (for example, Samza requires YARN -- no other options available). Let's say you have already a Mesos setup, you can reuse it for your Kafka Streams applications -- no need for a dedicated "Kafka Streams cluster" (because there is no such thing).

QUESTION
I want to write a JavaScript library in Kotlin, using Gradle as the build tool with Kotlin as the config language for that, too. In the end I'd like to get a single JS file which can be used as a stand-alone library, i.e. with (all required parts of) the Kotlin library bundled into it.
What would a minimal setup to make this work look like? In particular, how do I get the Kotlin libraries bundled in?
Here is what I have so far.
https://kotlinlang.org/docs/tutorials/javascript/getting-started-gradle/getting-started-with-gradle.html
only uses Groovy to configure Gradle. It also uses the buildscript
in combination with the apply plugin
statement, where I was under the general impression that this is considered a legacy approach and the plugins
section would be the preferred way.
https://kotlinlang.org/docs/reference/using-gradle.html#targeting-javascript
has Kotlin scripts. The code snippet for settings.gradle
doesn't have a switch between Groovy and Kotlin, but it appears to work without modification in my settings.gradle.kts
. That will create a file js/build/classes/kotlin/main/${project.name}.js
which looks like this (with moduleKind = "commonjs"
):

Answered 2019-Mar-19 at 08:39Webpack can be used in order to create a single JS containing all dependencies.
https://github.com/eggeral/kotlin-single-js-file-lib shows a complete example
Make sure the KotlinJS compiler uses as module system which is understood by webpack.
