How to best understand the relationship between cheroot vs cherrypy
            Asked 2022-Jan-04 at 21:07

I've read the official documentation but didn't find a definite answer. What is the relationship between cheroot and Cherrypy? I see Cherrypy imports a lot of codes from cheroot. Is it another project?

            ANSWER

            Answered 2022-Jan-04 at 21:07

In the beginning, there was only CherryPy, which combined an HTTP server, an HTTP application-development framework, and some process and environment controls. At some point, I noticed other people were using the CherryPy HTTP server with other frameworks, like Django and Flask, but constantly complained about polluting their beautiful frameworks with (gasp) threadlocals and method dispatch. So I split out the HTTP server and the process controls into cheroot so such users could feel better about using it, and made a version of CherryPy which no longer included those modules but instead imported cheroot.

After carefully reading log file, here's what I recommend to do for clean deploy.

While venv is activated and you're in project directory (where manage.py live), do the following:

            • Open requirements.txt
            • Delete unneeded modules from requirements.txt
            • Uninstall unneeded modules with pip uninstall module
            • Now run pip freeze requirements.txt
            • Deactivate venv
            • Then add requirements.txt to source control git add -A
            • Commit your changes git commit -m "deleted unneeded modules"
            • If you have existed Heroku app, connect to it with heroku git:remote -a myapp, else pass this step
            • Deploy, git push heroku master

If you are unsure which modules your project need and I can't determin exactly the project's requirements but if you have basic project, you only need 3 modules which are Django, psycopg2-binary, gunicorn, so do the following for clean deploy:

            • Delete venv
            • Outside project directory, create new one
            • Activate venv
            • Install the modules you need, probably Django, psycopg2-binary, gunicorn
            • Now run pip freeze requirements.txt
            • Deactivate venv
            • Then add requirements.txt to source control git add -A
            • Commit your changes git commit -m "deleted unneeded modules"
            • If you have existed Heroku app, connect to it with heroku git:remote -a myapp, else pass this step
            • Deploy, git push heroku master

            Install cheroot

You can install using 'pip install cheroot' or download it from GitHub, PyPI.
You can use cheroot like any standard Python library. You will need to make sure that you have a development environment consisting of a Python distribution including header files, a compiler, pip, and git installed. Make sure that your pip, setuptools, and wheel are up to date. When using pip it is generally recommended to install packages in a virtual environment to avoid changes to the system.
