I inherited some code and I don't know AngularJS very well. I have a date picker input with ng-model and an on-change event that calls a controller. The problem is the selected date isn't being passed to the controller.

Try using "k-ng-model" instead of "ng-model". Kendo's controls are often a bit quirky when used in Angular. The k- prefix on many of their angular directives is to get around this.
