A common docker pattern is to run few, or as little as a single process within a container. While buoyant containers run very few processes, they are very un-container-like, more resembling lightweight VMs as they run init and systemd. This configuration is necessary for the salt-minion to run, as well as for salt states such as service.running. SaltStack development with buoyant containers is intended for use in developing states that will target full Linux instances, it is not intended for targeting states on production docker instances. Note that buoyant containers should never be run in production and should only exist in a trusted development environment. They require extended privileges (--privileged) for systemd to function.

For this it is better to start from calculating the net force at any time and using this to calculate the acceleration, velocity and then position. For the following calculations, it is assumed that buoyancy and gravity are constant (which is not true in reality but the effect of their variability is negligible in this case), it is also assumed that the initial position is (0,0)
though this can be trivially changed to any initial position.

I am trying to verify linkerd's circuit breaking configuration by requesting through simple error prone endpoint deployed as a pod in the same k8s cluster where linkerd is deployed as a daemonset.
I have noticed circuit breaking happening by observing the logs but when I try to hit the endpoint again I still recieve the response from the endpoint.

Answered 2017-Jun-14 at 23:46This question was answered on the Linkerd community forum. Adding the answer here as well for the sake of completeness:
When failure accrual (circuit breaker) triggers, the endpoint is put into a state called Busy. This actually doesn't guarantee that the endpoint won't be used. Most load balancers (including the default P2CLeastLoaded) will simply pick the healthiest endpoint. In the case where failure accrual has triggered on all endpoints, this means it will have to pick one in the Busy state.

I'm trying to currently get my head around k8s and linkerd. I used docker-compose before and consul before.
I haven't fully figured out what I have been doing wrong, so I would be glad if someone could check the logic and see where the mistake is.
I'm using minikube
locally and would like to use GCE for deployments.
I'm basically trying to get a simple container which runs a node application running in k8s and linkerd, but for some reaons I can't get the routing to work.

Answered 2017-Feb-18 at 21:33We discussed this with some additional details in the linkerd Slack. The issue was not with the configs itself, but with the fact that the host header was not being set on the request.
The above configs will route based on host header, so this header must correspond to a service name. curl -H "Host: world" http://$IPADDRESS
(or whatever) would have worked.
(It's also possible to route based on other bits of the request, e.g. the URL path in the case of HTTP requests.)
