QUESTION
I made a custom Right-to-Left check button widget using a Gtk::CheckButton
without the label and a Gtk::Label
inside Gtk::EventBox
.
The reason I went this way instead of simply calling set_direction(Gtk::TEXT_DIR_RTL)
is that I want to manually specify the alignment for these widgets.
I've figured out activating/deactivating checkbutton state when the label's clicked but I'm having trouble triggering the hover event from label to checkbutton. The default Gtk::CheckButton
behavior triggers the hover effect on the clickable square button to indicate it's being activated when text is hovered too. How do I achieve that same behavior on my custom right-to-left checkbutton widget?
Below is the minimal reproducible code for testing:
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-28 at 10:46One way is to use set_state_flags()
and trick the visual output of your Right-to-Left checkbutton when the label is being hovered.
First, you need to enable these two masks for eventbox
to capture enter and leave event:
- Gdk::ENTER_NOTIFY_MASK
- Gdk::LEAVE_NOTIFY_MASK
QUESTION
This is my first project with Django, I want to recreate my static HTML/CSS/js site to a dynamic site with an admin panel. However, I have a hard time understanding the views/urls.On my index, I have main news, events, mini news - 3 categories. I can render mainnews, however, I'm not sure what to use as 'return' for the other 2(all 3 are on the belongs to index page) Currently, I have 'index' but doesn't show the events/news.

QUESTION
So this is what I am trying to do. There is an element/div which has some sibling div related to it like a modal. I know the size of the element div and have manually adjusted the transform property of the modal to be close to element but not overlapping and within the screen using the translate()
function. What I intend to do.
- calculate the size of the elementbox and modal and calculate the transform parameters for the modal dynamically. I need to be able to pass the height and width property values of the elementbox to the modal class to fulfill that. 2)determine the position of the element box in the viewport (I have thought to divide viewport into four quadrants). Decide the direction of transformation of modal on the basis of it.
...{elementbox quadrant : modal transform direction}

ANSWER
Answered 2020-Jul-17 at 10:26Note: Javascript solutions are welcome but I need to know if this is achievable by CSS only? Also the con of Javascript is if user resizes the window in this case I need another eventlistener for this.
Simply, no. CSS alone will not be able to determine the position of an element in order to style an element. You will indeed need a dynamic solution using JS for this.
It sounds like you are writing your own tooltip library for your application. If this is the case, I recommend considering third-party solutions for this as they already have done much of the heavy lifting an often already address accessibility needs. Some I found, though have not used myself:
- Tippy.js
- Popper.js
- or if you're already using a UI toolkit, check if it is already built in. For example, Bootstrap already uses popper.js for this.
If you are determined to write your own JS for this you are correct in that you will need a resize event listener. Be sure to use a debounce function for this so you don't encounter performance problems.
QUESTION
I've been searching for the constants for python gtk 3 using PYGObjects. Specifically what are the enum constants for the scroll events. 'gi.repository.Gdk' object has no attribute 'SCROLL_UP'. The events are listed here and is not working from the pygi-convert.sh I have included sample code that pinpoints the issue. Thanks.
...ANSWER
Answered 2017-May-26 at 22:38You're looking for Gdk.ScrollDirection.UP
.
The docs you linked are pygtk docs. pygtk is not gtk3. The relevant docs can be found here.

inside order array in the state of your app. Then you can use v-for
directive to render items from the array:

I created a event-box component in react. What I want is whenever is it called, I passed color values as props which later get used to set its border. Currently, I set two hardcoded class names and passed them as props with the component. Is there any other way to do so as I won't able to add all the color class names in my stylesheet.

QUESTION
I am trying to use Gtk.SelectionData.set
, for which one parameter is
data (bytes) – pointer to the data (will be copied)
The data I want to pass is a Gtk.EventBox
, but I am unclear on how to create a pointer to this data, or whether I even should. The documentation for GObject's Python bindings is automatically generated from the C documentation, and as far as I've been able to find, Python doesn't have a direct equivalent to pointers in C.
I cannot find any examples of this function being used in Python code. I've found examples in C, such as
...ANSWER
Answered 2020-Apr-10 at 03:32It's not going to be possible to translate that example directly to Python, because, even if you could get the address of the event box to store in the clipboard, unlike in C, you would not be able to reconstitute the event box object out of the address on the other side.
It would be hard to suggest what to do instead without knowing more about your particular application, but maybe you could store a textual representation of how to get to the widget from the top level, something like event_box.get_path().to_string()
?
QUESTION
I have been trying to write simple CAD application in Python. I was tinkering with pyglet, got some results: , but I decided to switch back to Gtk and I hit the wall:
I cannot get the mouse pointer position over the EventBox (with pyglet it was the label in the bottom left corner of the window app in the picture). What signal is designed for it? Or should I use another approach?
I will appreciate any piece of information or resources. Thanks in advance.

Answered 2019-Nov-04 at 17:10Question: How to detect the mouse position over EventBox?
- how-to-capture-event-on-event-box-to-detect-mouse-movement-in-gtk
- Gtk.EventBox
The
Gtk.EventBox
widget is a subclass ofGtk.Bin
which also has its own window. It is useful since it allows you to catch events for widgets which do not have their own window. - Gtk.Widget.add_events(events)
Adds the
events
in the bitfieldevents
to the event mask forself
. - Gdk.EventMask
A set of bit-flags to indicate which events a window is to receive.
- GDK_MOTION_NOTIFY the pointer (usually a mouse) has moved
The Gtk.EventBox
should have got the flag, not the window!

QUESTION
I'm trying to implement a custom docking solution using a Gtk.DrawingArea
placed upon a Gtk.Overlay
, but when I attempt to show the Gtk.DrawingArea
during a widget's drag_motion
event it triggers the drag_leave
event. The problem here is that I'm using the drag_leave event to hide the overlay, which means that I'm just toggling between visibility states as the cursor is moving. How can I prevent the overlay from triggering the bottom widget's drag_leave
event after it has been made visible?
Also, is there a more efficient way to approach docking? Should I be using Gtk.Window instead of Gtk.DrawingArea? What is the best way to draw a simple rectangle over a region and have it move when an item is dragged?
- I've tried using a Gtk.EventBox instead of a Gtk.DrawingArea
- I've tried using a Gtk.Window with Gtk.WindowType.POPUP instead of a Gtk.Overlay
- I've tried using GDL but I would prefer to create my own widgets using vala
- I've tried calling
gtk_overlay_set_overlay_pass_through
- I've tried calling
gdk_window_set_pass_through
ANSWER
Answered 2019-Jul-27 at 15:56I guess the right answer might depend on exactly what kind of effect you're looking for.
You could render the source widget to a pixbuf and call Gtk.drag_source_set_icon_pixbuf()
1 to set that to be dragged around.
You could try unparenting the source widget from its existing container and add re-adding it to the overlay, then use absolute positioning to move the whole widget.
Or it might just be easier to use the existing dock widgets in libdazzle.
Apologies for lack of concrete suggestions!
