            URDF loading incorrectly in RVIZ but correctly on Gazebo, what is the issue?

            I have imported a urdf model from Solidworks using SW2URDF plugin. The model loads correctly on Gazebo but looks weird on RVIZ, even while trying to teleoperate the robot, the revolute joint of the manipulator moves instead of the wheels. Is there anyone who has faced this issue before or has a solution to it? Here is how it looks on Gazebo

            So, I realized two problems:

            First, you have to change the fixed frame in the global options of RViz to world or provide a transformation between map and world.

            Second, your URDF seems broken. There is something wrong with your revolute-typed joints. Changing their type to fixed fixed the problem. I think, it's best if you ask a separate question with a minimal example regarding this second problem.

            How to use a ROS rviz panel to draw in 3d Scene?

            I'm working through the rviz tutorials and am trying to figure out how to use the example code "teleop_panel" to draw in the 3d scene. According to the tutorial this should be possible "A panel in RViz is a GUI widget which can be docked in the main window or floating. It does not show properties in the “Displays” panel like a Display, but it could show things in the 3D scene." But I can't figure out how to modify the source code to actually inject data into the 3d scene (like how the IMUDisplay plugin works).

            My use case is that I would like to have a way to have some form of rich qt panel (with controls, indicators, etc) that can connect to other ROS topics and draw in the main 3d scene. I don't believe this is possible with the other options (such as a Display plugin) but I could be wrong.

            I am trying to install ROS Melodic using the instructions on wiki.ros.org and stumbled upon some problems.

            System software information:

            Operating System: Kubuntu 21.10

            KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5

            KDE Frameworks Version: 5.86.0

            Qt Version: 5.15.2

            Kernel Version: 5.13.0-19-generic (64-bit)

            Graphics Platform: X11

            You're getting this error because Melodic is the ros distro for Ubuntu 18.04. As of present the most recent release is Noetic which targets 20.04. The version of Ubuntu you're using does not currently have a supported ROS release, as such your only real option is to downgrade if you want ROS.

            How to have multiple GUI displays from multiple bashes of a Linux Docker Container using Vcxsrv in Windows host?

            I currently have an Ubuntu docker container to run GUI applications called Gazebo and ROS. I am using Vcxsrv to run the GUIs on my windows host os and am able to display a GUI. However the problem is that I can only display one GUI from one bash of my running docker container at a time as I am able run my first GUI program, Gazebo, in the first docker container bash. But after I run a new bash with "docker exec -it bash" and then run another GUI program, like one called Rviz, I get the error here:

            Turns out I had to change around the DISPLAY environment variable in the Docker container from virtual ethernet to wireless adapter and visa versa. And I did this after I launched one of the GUI programs. After you are able to launch the second GUI program you do not have to switch environment variables anymore. This solution does not seem the best so therefore please feel free to post a better solution.

            I am trying to get z position of hector_quadrotor in simulation. I can get X and Y axis coordinates but I couldn't get Z coordinate. I tried to get it by using GPS but the values are not correct. So I want to get Z coordinate by using barometer or another sensor.

            To use a barometer you need to actually add that sensor to your robot. What you're looking at is only the callback meaning such messages are supported. If you want to add a new sensor to your robot I'd suggest looking at this tutorial.

            All that being said, if you're getting incorrect altitude values you need to go back and recheck your transforms because the localization built into hector should work fine.

            Why the robot doesn't move in RVIZ?

            I am working now with the real robot which is turtlebot3 burger. As shown in the rqt_graph below, I've run my custom package which is Im adding the ann3_publisher node to be published to the gmapping package and run in the real robot.

            But when I move the robot, it seems that the robot in the rviz application is not moving at all. The map and the robot is there as shown in the figure below but the robot is not moving:

            I try to run rosrun rviz rviz on the terminal and add one by one, there is a warning message appear as shown in the figure below

            When I run the common package roslaunch turtlebot3_slam turtlebot3_slam.launch slam_methods:=gmapping it works and I dont have this problem. May I know why and how to solve this?

            This is my custom turtlebot3_slam.launch file to subscribe the /scan_new3 topic.

            I have got the answer. It is because the sensor of the robot reading that there is obstacle around it but there isn't. You can see on the second figure, the sensor detect the walls in circle (green color) and build the walls around it. So the robot cannot move in rviz. When I eliminate that reading, the robot can move as usual in rviz

            You have to remap the input topics hector is expecting to the topics you're systems are outputting. Check this page for a full list of topics and params. In the end your launch file should look something like this. Note you need to put in your own topic names.

            That's easy: Because Rviz is a visualization tool and wasn't originally made for simulating a virtual environment. In other words: It can show you what the robot sees but it doesn't pretend to be the robot. Publishing a camera topic would basically mean that the visualized robot in Rviz pretends to see something itself: the Rviz-world.

            Other than Rviz, Gazebo is a very good choice for simulating a robot as well as designing an environment that a simulated robot-camera can see and publish. If you have trouble spawning the robot, you should probably look for a way to solve that rather than trying to use Rviz as simulation-tool.

            But there does seem to be a way to use Rviz for simulation, as stated here:

            rviz_camera_stream publishes an image rendered in rviz. It builds in jade at least, but likely works in hydro and indigo, and following the fork back leads to a pre-catkin version.

            It needs an input camera_info to get camera intrinsics and resolution. The distortion coefficients are ignored, but a image_proc like node that implements http://code.opencv.org/issues/1387 could address that downstream. (Do gazebo cameras support distortion yet? http://gazebosim.org/tutorials?tut=ca... says version 5.0 does)

            The input camera_info topic and output image topic are set in the rviz plugin gui.

            Old suggestion:

            One hacky solution is to run a screen grab node http://wiki.ros.org/screengrab_ros and position the rviz window just so, though it would be very brittle and hard to automate with launch files.

            The settings in the TF file were correct. To change the angle of the vehicle model, I made the following settings.

            1. Change the yaw setting of Baselink to Localizer in the Setup tab (in the direction you want the vehicle model to point).
            2. Set the yaw setting of ndt_matching to offset it.(if baselink angle(1) is -1.55, here it is +1.55)

            How to generate ".svo" file from rosbag for ZED SDK

            I would like to generate a point cloud from stereo videos using the ZED SDK from Stereolabs.

            What I have now is some rosbags with left and right images (and other data from different sensors).

            My problem comes when I extract the images and I create the videos from them, what I get are the videos in some format (e.g. .mp4) using ffmpeg, but the ZED SDK needs a .svo format, and I don't know how to generate it.

            Does it exist some way to obtain ".svo" videos from rosbags?

            Also, I would like to ask, (once I get the .svo files) how could I get the point cloud using the SDK if I am not able to use a graphic interface? I am working from a DGX workstation by using ROS (Melodic and Ubuntu 18.04) in Docker and I am not able to make rviz and any graphic tool to work inside the Docker image, so I think I should do the point cloud generation "automated", but I don't know how.

            I have to say that this is my first project using ROS, ZED SDK and Docker, so that's why I am asking this (maybe) basics questions.

            You can't. The .svo file format is a propriety file format that can only be recorded to by using a ZED and their SDK (or wrapper), can only be read by their SDK/wrapper, and only be exported by their SDK/wrapper.

            To provide some helpful direction, I suggest that all functionality & processing you would like to get out of the images, by processing with or making use of the SDK features, can be done with open source 3rd party trusted community software projects. Examples include OpenCV (which bundles many other AI/DNN object detection or position estimation or 3D world reconstruction algorithms), PCL, or their wrappers in ROS, or other excellent algorithms whose chief API and reference is their ROS node.
