QUESTION
in this tic tac toe game, why the last move of last player to play, is not showed? So, when it's the last turn of the game, nothing is shown on the square, not an O and neither an X. What is the problem?
The code follows:

QUESTION
I am trying to make a Tic Tac Toe game in Python, where I use two separate files. Each has different code and separate classes, which I am trying to call. However, each time I try to do so, I receive this error:

Answered 2021-May-26 at 23:23You're not specifying which class you are inheriting from. To use inheritance, you do class ClassName(ClassToInheritFrom)
.
So your file would look like:

QUESTION
I am currently doing this problem in cs50 AI where we need to make a minimax algorithm for playing tictactoe. My algorithm doesn't work at all (it is really easy to beat the computer) and I was wondering what I was doing wrong. I am also pretty sure that all my other functions are correct and that only the minimax function is incorrect. Would really appreciate any help, thank you all!
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-21 at 04:29You seem to have lots of unnecessary functions and your minimax code looks way too complicated than it needs to be. Basically you need 4 main functions for your game:
- Minimax itself
- Get all possible moves from a position (unless you want to do the loop inside minimax)
- Determine if a player has won
- Determine if board is full
Also, have you looked at the pseudo code for minimax from e.g. Wikipedia? :
QUESTION
The state of a value set using React useState hook gets set to the proper value and then reset to null. Critical code below. The click event that sets the startDate to the current date and time is 3 components down from where startDate is initialized. When setStartDate did not work I created an arrow function, updateStartDate. Both had the same problem where the startDate was changed after the click event (witnessed per the console.log in the top component), but was null just before the next click event (per the console.log in the click event). This is not an async problem as I see the change made before subsequent click.
If this is something that just does not work please explain. I could probably fix with useReducer but prefer to keep the useState if there is something I can do to correct this... If not correctable then I would like to at least understand why it does not work so that I can avoid this problem in the future.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-19 at 15:45At least, code below doesn't make much sense. Please don't set state value as a component. Also, try to name state variable different from components, since it will confuse you at some ppint.
QUESTION
I've just started studying Java.
I know I can extract a jar file with command jar xf jarname.jar
But I'm confused about this [command jar x
and useless new lines]jar x and new lines
- Enter
jar x
,press the Enter key. - Enter
TicTacToe.jar
(what i want to extract sth from),press the Enter key. - Nothing else happened expect generating a new line.
Please tell me why
Can't 'x' be used by itself?
Or
I should use some special command in cmd?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-15 at 16:56If no f
option is given to specify an archive file, data (not its name) is read from standard input like in:
cat file.jar | jar x
;type file.jar | jar x
(Windows); orjar x < file.jar
Same true when creating a JAR file, without f
option, data is written to standard output.
QUESTION
I am writing a modified TicTacToe game where the user has to enter a correct response before their selected square receives an "O" or "X". I have this working fine with two live players on the same computer. When I add the ability for one player to play against an automated response I am having trouble placing the "X". I can calculate the best square(row and column) to place the, "X", but am having trouble displaying it on the board. Below is the code that displays the buttons. The board layout can be a square of any number between 3 and 10.
I track the coordinates (data-coord) of each square but do not know how to use the row and column to place a square in the button group. I do not have a click event for the automated user but if there was a way to simulate the click event at the selected location then I could place the "X" similar to how the live user's selection is updated. Can you please provide any suggestions for doing this?
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-10 at 12:12My son was able to resolve this for me. Two steps.
- Added the following line right below the data-coord in the jsx.
id={"Square" + rowId.toString() + columnId.toString()}
- Added the following code to update the square. Note that the location of the selected square to be updated was determined with another algorithm. One of my problems was that I thought I needed to simulate a click but turned out not to be the case. I just needed to get the element by id, get the child property and then assign an "X" (ie 'close') to the innerHTML.
QUESTION
I am trying to understand the Tic Tac Toe game code from Programming In Haskell by G. Hutton. The code is in the file tictactoe.hs. On Windows it generates these characters (←[2J←[1;1H) at the beginning of displaying the game grid. It doesn't happen on Ubuntu.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-08 at 08:32These are ANSI escape codes [wiki]. If you run this in a terminal that supports ANSI escape quotes, these can change how the characters will be printed: for example in boldface, in a different color etc.
The ←[2J
is what the terminal makes out of "\ESC[2J"
, and this will clear the screan, whereas the ←[1;1H
will move the cursor to the top left corner, as is specied on the Wikipedia page:
CSI n ; m H
CUP
Cursor Position
Moves the cursor to row n
, column m
. The values are 1-based, and default to 1 (top left corner) if omitted. A sequence such as CSI ;5H
is a synonym for CSI 1;5H
as well as CSI 17;H
is the same as CSI 17H
and CSI 17;1H
.
CSI n J
ED
Erase in Display
Clears part of the screen. If n is 0 (or missing), clear from cursor to end of screen. If n is 1, clear from cursor to beginning of the screen. If n is 2, clear entire screen (and moves cursor to upper left on DOS ANSI.SYS). If n is 3, clear entire screen and delete all lines saved in the scrollback buffer (this feature was added for xterm and is supported by other terminal applications).
(…)
(…)
(…)
(…)
This is thus used to "refresh" the screen with the new state of the game. In order to render this properly, you will need to use a terminal that will "understand" these sequences, and also implement these properly.

QUESTION
I use the Firebase real-time database to store the stats of several games for my Discord bot and would like to calculate the high score for each game independently.
...ANSWER
Answered 2021-May-02 at 14:32The Firebase Realtime Database always returns complete nodes. There is no way to get it to return only a subset of the properties of each node.
If you find you have a common need to only get the data for one particular game for each user, consider adding an additional data structure where you keep only the information about that game for each user. This sort of data duplication is fairly common in NoSQL databases.
I also recommend reading the Firebase documentation on data structuring, specifically the sections on building nests and flattening data structures.
